A very old
and beautiful hamlet in the lap of hills and hillocks have been
attracting visitors specially from Bengal. Giridih situated in the
centre of Jharkhand is surrounded by a number of hills and hillocks
including the world famous Jain Pilgrimage Shrine, where 20 out of 24
Jain Tirthankaras attained Nirvana, the 'Salvation'. A noted wild life
sanctuary 'Parasnath' with it's highest pick measuring 1365 mts. which
is the highest in Jharkhand. it also offers one of the best site for
trekking, hiking and wilderness camp. The stream flowing from it's peak
possesses medicinal value and is a heaven for the Ecologists. The
sanctuary houses a large number of fauna and flora including the rarest
species of herbs at it's bed.
Parasnath Temple :
The highest hill in Jharkhand,
towering to an elevation of 4480 feet. The Parasnath Temple is
considered to be one of the most important and sanctified holy places of
the Jains. According to Jain tradition, no less than 23 out of 24
Tirthankaras (including Parsvanatha) are believed to have attained
salvation here.
Parasnathhill :
Parasnath hill which is
4431 ft height is the highest mountain south of the Himalayas . It is
located at the latitude of 23 degree ,9 minutes North and longitude of
86 degree, 3 minutes East. It was made accessible since the construction
of a road in 1838. Significantly the oldest of the jain temple appears
to date only from AD. 1775.
Parasnath is the "Marang
Buru "or hill deity of the Santhal of Hazaribagh,Manbhum,Bankura and
Santhal Parganas and each year they assemble at the period of the full
noon in Baisakh from these district and celebrate a religious hunt for
three days after which a great tribal session is held .In the assembly
they decided the great matter relating to their custom and charge of
offenced for outcasting the indivisual. Since Parasnath has been
declared as a wild life sanctuary District administration and Forest
official are trying to persuade the local tribe to give up their
religious hunt. The special sanctity of Parasnath for the Jains arises
from the tradition that twenty -third of the Tirthankars (religious
saints who are the object of their worship),Parsva or Parsvanath , like
nine of his predecessors attained nirvana on the hill. According to
local tradition the number of Tirthankars who attained nirvana on the
Parasnath hill is 20 and not 9 .For each of them there is a shrine(
gumti for tuk) on the hill.
Harihar Dham :
A small hamlet about 60kms
South-west of Giridih district headquarter underr
Bagodar Block
possesses the largestt Shiva Linga of India. People from all over
the India throngs over
here every year. The temple has typical sculpture.
Ursi Fall :
Amidst in the range of the
famous Parasnath Hills, the Usri River gushes down from a steep gorge ,
some 40 feet high in three separate streams .Located about 14 km away
from east of Giridih Town. It is an favourite picnic spot.
Madhuban :
The Village which lies in
pirtand block has a famous temple believed to be more than 2000 years
old. It is a place of considerable religious importance
for the jain.The
Samosharan temple and Bhomiyaji Asthan are two very
famous Jain temple.There
is a Jain Museum at Madhuban which houses a
number of Jain scriptures,
Idiols and manuscript. One can view the clear
sight of Parasnath Temple
using the telescope installed at the balcony of the museum.
Khandoli Park :
A water reservoir some
8 km North-East of Giridih headquarter is one of the best
site for water
related adventure sports and bird-watching. A watch tower and
600 feet high hillock
offers a panoramic view of Khandoli site. Elephant and
Camel Safari and numbers
of other amusement facilities are available
there including boating,
Rock-climbing, Parasailing and Kayaking.

Rock Climbing :
Rapelling, River Crossing and Trekking
are a part of mountaineering training, which inculcates team spirit,
crisis handling abilities & leadership. Khandoli Hill with it's vast
range of rocks, offers varied challenges to beginners as well as to
experts. Introductory training is provided during the camp by skilled
instructors of the Academy. Optimum safety is secured even for the
beginners.
Walking on Air :
Parasailing is an exciting aero sport
harnessed to a half cut orange shaped parachute called 'Parasail', which
is towed by a jeep on land or by a motor boat above water bodies upto a
height of 300 feet with the help of a roap attached. No engine, no
sound, no pilot, only excitement and thrill. The flight is controlled
entirely by the operator from jeep. You need to have any prior
experience and certified instructors by the 'Indian Air Force' who will
make sure that you land safety.
Paragliding :
Humans desire of flying like a bird
has really come true by 'Paragliding'. Walking on a ridge at a hill top,
feel smooth breeze of wind on your face, lay out your wing from the back
pack, with a gentle pull inflate your canopy. Run up for a few steps and
you are talking to birds in air. No sound, no roaring engine, no
pollution, no canophony of your co-passengers really make free flying
alone or with your instructor in Tandem wing. Yes one can external
power, only the power of wind and your Paraglider. Run up for a few

training one could go for a skyride, dedicated pilots fly for hours, go
for cross country, catch the thermals and touch the clouds. The Academy
offers introductory Paragliding training during the camp, by which you
could feel free flying, under the supervision of skilled pilots &
certified instructors, duly recognised by Govt. of India. Safest and
best quality imported equipments are used by the Academy. The Academy
also offers gradual training to make you a skilled paragliding pilot.

Aeromodeling :
Airmenship training is being imparted by
'static line controlled Aeromodels and Remote Controlled Aeromodels'.
Theory classes as well as practicals teaches you, how to make flyable
model aircrafts how they are flown.
Water Surfing :
Floating over the water bodies (Khandoli
Dam) with the support of a pulling made by a speed boat. You simply need
to balance yourself over a surf board only. It's a beginning of water
skiing you need not have prior experience. Provided life jackets,
non-swimmers can also do it safely under the guidance of skilled
instructors.
