Jamshedpur, also called
Tatanagar has its name coming from the legendary Jamshedji Tata. It was
in 1919 that this name was given to the city in tribute to the founder
of Tata Steel. Jamshedpur can also boast of being the first planned
industrial city of India. Situated at 86.12 degrees East and 22.47
degrees North Jamshedpur is one of hottest cities of Jharkhand. It is
not only the geographical local but also the heat generated from the
steel plant which raises the temperature here. Temperature rises to
above 46 degrees celsius in the summers. Jamshedpur has a number of
important industries. The area has abundance of mineral resources and
has some tourist attractions too. Besides the industrial importance of
Jamshedpur the city can also boast of excellent facilities for sports
and education. The city is very well connected by Road and Rail.
TRAIN CONNECTION :
Jamshedpur is close to Calcutta and Ranchi. The railway station is
called Tatanagar and is on the main Calcutta-Mumbai rail route.
Tatanagar also comes in between the train links of Delhi and Puri. It is
also on the rail line connecting Ranchi to Calcutta. All this makes
Jamshedpur very well connected to all areas by trains. The important
trains are Howrah - Mumbai Mail and Gitanjali Express, Shatabdi and
Steel Express to Howrah / Rourkela, Howrah - Pune Express, Howrah -
Ahmedabad Express, Howrah - Ranchi Express, Delhi - Puri Purushottam /
Kalinga / Nilanchal Express, Tatanagar - Pathankot and Tatanagar - Patna
Express.
ROADS :
The city is on the National Highway No.33
and connected to main cities of Bihar, Bengal and Orissa.
AIR CONNECTION :
The Sonari airport of
Jamshedpur does not offer regular commercial flights as of now. Some
years back there were regular flights between Jamshedpur and Calcutta
and Ranchi.
