Stone House Lodge is a luxurious,
architect-designed boutique hotel, on a secluded plateau in the
hills of Kandy, with magnificent views over lush green hills and
valleys to the central mountains, ranging blue and purple beyond.
Watch the sun set behind distant hills as you
sip an ice-cold beer or a chilled gin and tonic on the terrace
and, if you are an early riser, the rosy dawn breaking over
Hunasgiri Peak. At night, after a home-cooked dinner of
fresh-caught fish, pasta al dente or spicy Sri Lankan rice and
curry, stroll in pin-drop silence in the two-acre garden under a
sky crackling with stars. Or simply spend an afternoon relaxing
with a book, on our comfy Chesterfield sofas, or gazing through
the French windows of our spacious antique-furnished living room.
If you watch carefully, you may spot the little
family of mongooses, hunting under the bamboos before dusk. But at
any time of day you will be sure to see red and yellow humming
birds and tropical song birds feeding outside your windows.
Our huge teak-floored master bedroom, with large
luxury bathroom, has views over the Dumbara Valleys. Our
privately-enclosed suite provides a cozy study or living room, as
well as large double bedroom and attached luxury bathroom, with
views of the Hunasgiri Range. Our upstairs living room has a small
library and French windows leading to a secluded upper-level
garden. And our downstairs double bedrooms with ensuite luxury
bathrooms, all look out on to the lush, quiet garden. All our
rooms have teak-ceilings and are furnished entirely in cool white
Stone House Lodge has long been known to
discriminating travelers as more of a private villa of one’s own
than a hotel. A place where there are no set meal times, you are
free to relax undisturbed, as you would at home, or chat to our
English-speaking staff. Our staff, who are trained to
international hotel standards, will be delighted to serve you our
Sri Lankan breakfasts of traditional hoppers, or eggs, toast and
marmalade, or a light lunch at any time, not to mention our
delicious continental or Sri Lankan dinners. And of course chilled
drinks, fresh coconut juice, tea and coffee, cold beer, drinks and
snacks are available at the touch of a bell.
Should you wish to spend an afternoon boating on
the Kandy Lake, browsing in antique shops, visiting the island’s
holiest Buddhist shrine, the lakeside Temple of the Tooth, or the
historic Lankatillaka Temple, we can arrange cars and drivers. And
for those wishing to explore the island further, we will be
delighted to arrange transport and accommodation for you, or
simply offer our in-depth knowledge of the island to help you plan
your trip to off-the-beaten-track spots.
Because of our location in the centre of the
island, we are easily accessible from the south or west coast
beaches. Colombo, the capital, is only a two and a half hour drive
away; or a two hour scenic train ride. And the beautiful
white-sand east coast beaches, or the ancient cities of
Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, the temples of Dambulla and the rock
fortress of Sigiriya with its famous frescoes, are all within easy
reach.
Because of Kandy's central location and
elevation at 488 meters above sea level, it is in season
throughout the year and its climate is always temperate. So, come
any time!

from the airport, which is only two hours away avoiding Colombo
traffic, should you wish to come directly here. If your own driver
