The River House, is a stylish, secluded villa even
more luxurious than her sister property, Taprobana, just 20
minutes down the South Coast road from Bentota. Set in 7 acres of
beautiful riverside land, The River House also has an adjoining
lush lake that has been landscaped to produce a bird and wildlife
sanctuary. The house is about 500m inland from the coast but
there's a pool and pavillion perched on a hill with stunning views
all around. And for those who need a daily sea-dip, The River
House also has a beach cottage on a private ocean bay, accessible
by only 2 other private homes.
The villa is made with all natural materials - lots of wood, stone
and tiles, in warm earthy colors. All the doors and windows and
most of the furniture are antiques that have been sourced as
individual pieces. The main house has 2 garden suites with ponds
and one 'river-view room' downstairs. The entire top storey is a
suite with plunge pool and a spacious covered terrace, with
fantastic views of the whole property. The 5th suite, a
self-contained unit, is set apart from the main house but nearer
to, and with great vistas of, the lake and river.
