The culmination of the inaugural launch of Langkawi
International Festival of Arts (LIFA) coincided with the official
opening of Ibrahim Hussein Museum and Cultural Foundation (IHMC).
This prestigious event was officiated by Malaysia's Prime Minister,
Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and was organized by IHMCF, with the
participation of the local Kedah Government and the Langkawi
Development Authority (LADA).
LIFA witnessed participating artists from around the globe taking up
special invitations by Datuk Ibrahim Hussein. The 10 day festival
was festooned with non-stop activities taking place on different
parts of the mythical Langkawi Island, including talks by artists,
ikebana demonstrations, the GAPENA congress, a photography
exhibition led by Eric Peris and many more.
IHMCF itself is an undisputed work of art spanning across some
16,000 square feet of enclosed terrain over two levels, with an
entrance portico and circular forecourt, approached by a driveway
through the conserved forest. His abode is also a part of the
cultural village, built with an open deck, overlooking the breezy
and majestic Andaman Sea, a shangri-la envied by many other artists.
