Qurayyat Fort : Just inland from the sea, roughly 80 Km from the Capital city of Muscat, Qurayyat Fort sits on the outskirts of a breathtaking mountainous road, protecting the Wilayat centre and surrounding palm plantations.

A unique triangular watchtower, perched atop a small rocky islet, stands guard over the harbour area.

Mirbat Fort : Housed in Wilayat Mirbat, in the Governorate of Dhofar, Mirbat Fort is the site of one of the last battles in the world involving conventional attack and defence from a fortress.

The documented and fiercely-fought battle at Mirbat Fort was a milestone in the Dhofari insurrection of the mid 1970's. Was restored in 1991.

Sadah Fort : Sadah Fort dates back to the era of Sultan Taimour bin Faisal Al-Bu Saidi, perhaps earlier as suggested by the inscriptions on doorstep. The Fort is the easternmost of a string of fortifications protecting the coast of Dhofar.

Despite its remote location, Sadah is a prosperous community, boasting a thriving traditional abalone fishery and a history of lucrative frankincense trade. The homes of wealthy myrrh merchants still stand on the foreshore of the town.

Taqah Fort : Nested in the heart of Taqah coastal town in Dhofar, which is famed for its pottery, silverwork and other artisan industries. It is no wonder therefore that Taqah Fort has has an artistry of its own. The numerous shuttered windows of the Fort are particularly distinctive, being fitted with latticed wooden screens and keyhole-shaped arches.

Khasab Fort : A picturesque stronghold situated on the inner cove of Khasab Bay in Wilayat Khasab; Musandam Governorate.

The Fort was built in the 17th century by Portuguese seeking control over regional maritime trade.

Khasab Fort houses a colossal central tower Within its low crenulated walls, which is anticipated to pre-date the Fort itself. It was restored in 1989.

Al-Hellah Fort : Al-Hillah Fort, notable for its distinctive plastework motifs, is situated at the heart of Al-Buraimi Oasis; Al-Buraimi Governorate.

The strategic location of Al-Buraimi on the overland route between Sohar and Arabian Gulf made it a focal point of constant conflicts during the past centuries.

Al-Khandaq Fort : Located in Hamasa town in Welayat Al-Buraimi, the Fort sets an excellent example of an entrenched stronghold in Oman.

The use of a defensive trench or dry moat is an ancient strategy which was employed in the protection of Omani cities, castles and fortresses since before the arrival of Islam. The Fort was restored in 1994.

As-Suwaiq Fort : Located in the Wilayat of As-Suwaiq, west of Barka on the Gulf of Oman, the Fort is distinguished by 3 cornered round towers and a square keep housing the forth corner in the style of pre-cannon architecture.

In the early 1800's the Fort was famously defended by the wife of Suwaiq Wali.

Barka Fort : Barka Fort is perhaps the most impressive of Oman's massive sand fortresses, where an inscription highlights the name of Ahmad bin Said, the first imam of the Al-Bu Said dynasty, and winner of what became Oman's final victory over the Persians.

A major landmark on Al-Batinah coast, the Fort is located a few hundred meters from the shore of the Gulf of Oman, and dates back to the reign of Imam Saif bin Sultan Al-Ya'arubi. It features a unique octagonal tower with two restored watchtowers at the rare, which were once part of the defensive town wall.
