Nested
in a small village overlooking the Vembanad lake lies the Kovilakam - a
peaceful lakeshore retreat.
Like most Kerala homes, Kovilakam stands
serene, stately yet traditional, and breathtakingly beautiful, thirsting
to be unravelled. This little villa with all its homeliness lends you
the luxury of lazing on its own lawns, drinking in the sight of
backwaters glistening under the pale blue sky, dotted with fisherman
casting their nets. Occasional cries of a boatman hauling his net jerks
you back to reality.
An enjoyable cruise
through the heart of the backwaters in a house boat takes you to
Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala, where farming is done 2 mts. below
sea level. The tranquil waters with its myriad lagoons and serpentine
canals give you a feeling that there is more to be seen.
Pathiramanal, a
forgotten paradise where nature flourishes untouched by man, is just a
few minutes away. A casual walk through the village gives you a unique
opportunity to view the village folk engaged in boat making, fishing,
toddy tapping and prawn culture. The chinese nets gracefully bowing
their heads into the backwaters, paint a beautiful sight. And finally to
soothe the body and mind you can also indulge in a rejuvenating
ayurvedic oil massage at Kovilakam.
Our "Mattupavu"
restaurant offers you traditional Kerala fare. You could wash down hot,
delicious 'appams' and lip smacking 'Kozhy curry' with tender coconut
water. Other Kerala delicacies and sea food items are sure to create
that lingering taste in you .
Kovilakam offers a sensual and
spiritual feast for those in quest of natures's finest.
