The Dalai Lama the head of Tibetan Buddhism has been here since 1959. It consists of 2 distinct regions the upper part  is McLeodGanj herein the Dalai Lama resides and the  lower Dharamshala has administrative offices, schools etc. here are  a number  of  picnic spots near  Dharamshala,  the  waterfall at Bhagsunath is within walking distance and nearby is the Dal  Lake and immediately  above  Upper Dharamshala  is Dharmkot Hill a favorite picnic spot for visitors.
