At
just the right distance from the heart of Munnar town (10 kms)
in its proximity and yet quite isolated and secluded,
perched on the hill-slopes beyond Sevenmallay Estate,
on the road to Mankulam, is Camelot Eco Resort Munnar,
a place of idyllic beauty, natural simplicity and pleasantness.
It gives the visitor an unmemorable experience
never before tasted in his entire life.
As its name implies,
Camelot is an idyllic, pleasing and picturesque spot of natural
simplicity and happiness. Truly, the spirit of King Arthur must be
hovering over this place, blissfully forgetting the time gap of 15
centuries and the distance of thousands of miles. The camp-home is far
enough to shut out the hustle and bustle of Munnar town and close
enough to reach it in 15 minutes flat in a jeep/bike.
Just wandering in and
around the resort premises, you can sight dozens of rare and
endangered species of flora and fauna. Animals like elephants, bison,
wild dogs and wild boars are often sighted in the mornings and
evenings. Birds like black birds, kites, hornbills and many smaller
varieties are frequent visitors. Rare insects like the Atlas Moth are
seen in abundance. Wild orchids, giant tree ferns, rhododendrons, etc.
are also in plenty around the place.
All around the resort, the tea, coffee,
cardamom and pepper plantations remind us that we are in the heartland
of the spice capital of the world. For a closer look, any number of
specimens of these plants can be seen inside the resort property
itself, and a well-kept vegetable farm with all varieties of endemic
vegetables is close by.
The Camelot Rock View
Point, within the property, is just 150 metres up along a longer
trekking route. From this point you can see 9 estate mountains:
Kannimala, Rajamala, Kallar, Nallathanny, Nyamakad, Vagavarai, Silent
Valley, Parvathy and Lekshmi. You can also clearly see Anamudi the
highest peak south of the Himalayas.
The Camelot Trekking Pinnacle, a special
trekking spot up 1000 metres, above the property, can be reached after
4 hours of arduous climb. But the effort is worth, if the climate is
favourable, as the viewpoint will give you a birds-eye view of the
high ranges all around, and even a distant view of Kochi city, the
'Queen of the Arabian Sea'. For the long trek to the Camelot Trekking
Pinnacle and for jungle safaris, necessary accessories and medicines
will be supplied.
The resort
has its own micro hydroelectric power source and water supply. The
natural clear mineral water collected from a perennial stream,
filtered and supplied hygienically is safe and tasty. Bottled mineral
water is also bought in sufficient quantities and stocked. But, mind
you, no TV or newspapers will be available, except on specific demand
from the clients, as they might bring you down with a thud from the
heights of solitary seclusion that will revitalize you for years to
come.
