If
the urge to escape to the ends of the earth strikes you, visit
Fort Tiracol. Once an armed fortress that belonged to the
Portuguese, Fort Tiracol is now content to spend the rest of
its days on a cliff enjoying the kaleidoscopic view of the
Arabian Sea and the spectacular estuary of the Tiracol River.
It exists in its own space and time on the northernmost tip of
Goa.
Swap the delights of a casino for a catnap on a secluded
beach. Trade your dancing shoes for a chance to feel the sand
in your feet. Befriend the ocean
Take the fort's private boats and go coast cruising or dolphin
sighting.
Or, sign up for Yoga lessons and Ayurvedic massages.
Those who decide to simply unwind will find their days are
just packed with sun worship, great food and wine.
How To Get
There - The Tiracol Fort Heritage Hotel is an hour and
forty minute drive from Goa, Dabolim Airport.
The road all along is good, interesting and picturesque. Drive
through many Goan villages, along the beaches of Morjim,
Ashvem and Arambol and reach the jetty at Kerim beach. A ferry
takes you and the car across the river. Then it's less than a
five minute drive up a hill to an abode of peace and quiet,
good view, good food and good sleep
Amenities - New age luxury awaits you, which includes
two beautiful suites and five spacious double rooms all with a
breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea.
The seven
rooms are named after the seven days of the week!
2 Suites: Friday and Sunday
4 Double Standard Rooms: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
1 Family Room (can accommodate 4 persons): Monday
With its limited number of rooms, the hotel offers an intimacy
that befits its size. The interiors are both contemporary yet
in keeping with the monumental structure. Dramatic and homely
in turns, Tiracol is unique.
Eighteenth century iron balustrades, built to keep people out,
now offer protection on the upper verandah where long ceramic
water jars painted black strike a contrast with cascading
bougainvillea and whitewashed walls.
It's on this spacious terrace that meals are served beneath
large white umbrellas; and off this, up a few steps is the
intimate breakfast room and bar.
