Dharma Ayurvedic Haven manages the Ayurvedic Centre at the Kumarakom Lake Resort. The centre has qualified doctors and trained personnel.

DHARMA AYURVEDIC HAVEN was established in 1965 by a family of renowned traditional physicians practising the Dravidian style of Ayurveda for centuries through generations. Today, Dharma is trusted as an exclusive centre where genuine age-old traditions and treatments are still practised by highly qualified and reputed physicians. Dharma has frequently been in the news for creating remarkable results in succession by curing patients from illnesses unresponsive to modern medicines and treatments.

The ancestral house of Vaniyapurackal V. J. Sebastian is about a century old. It was built, it is believed, at the time when the Poonjar Thekkekara Panchayat of Meenachil Taluk belonged to the Poonjar Kingdom. Interestingly, Poonjar is rare of the rarest kingdoms, which came into being without bloodshed. The King of Poonjar who hailed from Madurai, bought around sixty thousand acres of land and installed himself as the king of the land. An ancestor of the Vaniyappurackal family is said to have helped the King at a time of his financial need. The King responded by offering tax-free land and other grants. The house now graces the Resort in its new incarnations.

The ancestral house of Mr.K.M.Philipose of Kuruppanteth family in Naranmmoozhy Panchayath in Pathanamthitta District is a century old and was once on the banks of the Pampa river. Traditionally, members of this Nasranis (early Christian) were conferred the honour of protecting the holy deity of Aranmula Temple when the lord was taken on procession. It was the family's right to supply oil for the Temple and provisions to the Temple kitchen. Once during the procession, in the absence of a member of this family, the elephant carrying the holy idol refused to budge an inch. An astrologer was consulted and he divined that the procession could proceed only when a member of the Kuruppanteth family held the 'sanctified sword'!

The ancestral home of the Maruthoor Vattathu Nagavallil Nair family of Kokkothamangalam near Cherthala, is documented to be over a century old. Over generations, the eldest member of this martial family was the personal bodyguard of the King.

The magnificent house of Thekkekannanthara Abdullah Haji, a merchant lord and landowner, was originally located at Vaduthala near Cherthala. This 150 year old ancestral mansion has splendid front roof and decorated girdle - all constructed of high quality 'Anjali' timber.

The door at the reception is from the ancestral house of Manakkattambillil family, near Ambalappuzha temple. This traditional house was built by the King of Chempakassery, Devanarayanan (Poorurttathi) as a gift to Srikantan (Kochu Menon), a minister of the King of Ambalappuzha.
Legend recalls that when the Kingdom of Ambalappuzha was attacked by the troops of Marthanda Varma, the King of Travancore, the treacherous Mathoor Panicker, the Commander of the Ambalappuzha army, let the enemy in through a secret passage, causing considerable damage.

The King of Ambalappuzha, believing that it was Srikantan who betrayed him, declared him a traitor and ordered his soldiers to execute him on sight On his way back from the Irattakkulangara temple, the King's soldiers surrounded Srikantan. The innocent minister, on being stabbed, cried out 'Lord Krishna'. It is believed that the western door of the temple closed itself at that time! And it remains closed till today.
The figure of Gajalakshmi above the portico and the arappadi (cellar door) in the front is enchantingly beautiful. On this door, presented by the King Devanarayanan, there are a number of carved images like Parthasarathi on horseback, Lord Krishna frolicking with gopikas and Gajalakshmi in the lotus-pond. Moreover, there are many images carved in ivory. This magnificent front door now graces the reception at the Kumarakom Lake Resort.
