THE 7- DAY PROGRAM
is geared towards revitalising an individual. Any prevalent weariness
and fatigue can be cured by administering medicated herbal
oils during the daily sessions of oil therapy, internal medicines as
well as the prescribed yoga postures leading to a feeling
of vitality and well-being.
Extendable
to.. The 14 day
program which is a more intensive course wherein the oil therapy
pervades beyond the 14 layers of the skin, right down to
the bone marrow. This results in an alleviation of joint pain,
spondilitis and insomnia. It also gives the physician an
opportunity to confirm the validity of his treatment. And/or provide
him an avenue to change the course of the treatment if
necessary. It also gives the patient the additional time to learn some
of the more advanced asanas like
Kateechakrasana
Anjaneyasana
Vrukshasana
Padahastasana
Paschimotanasana
Siddhasana
Gomukhasana
Salabhasana
Dhanurasana
PROGRAM TWO
THE 21 - DAY PROGRAM
is even more encompassing in that the oil begins to
penetrate right into the body to benefit the internal organs.
And operates as a detoxification process. Wherein week one is the
observation period of consultations, diagnosis and
prescriptions. Of determining internal medication, diets and external
treatments. Of Abhyanga, yoga, meditation and consultation
with our in-house astrologer. Week two is more intensive. It's when
the
actual treatment begins. The commencement of Dhara and Pizhichil,
amongst others (on a predetermined auspicious day). Also during
this week total mental/physical rest and a strict diet is advised.
Week three is the post-treatment period. When the patient
is actually weaned off the intense treatment. But the rest and diet
continues. Preferably with the patient internalizing these
principles for life.
Extendable
to... The 35 - day
program which is the ideal therapeutic package. For according to
Ayurveda, it takes 28 days to convert food into its final
essence (Ojas). So over 35 days, one is ensured of complete
detoxification. This treatment package follows the same
procedure for the first three weeks. Followed by the essential period
of complete
rest and internalisation during weeks four and five.
CONSULTATION
Treatment in Ayurveda is a prolonged process. One involving actual
treatment, the other- the more important –a SWEDANA
A mild fomentation procedure (using a cloth dipped in hot water)
NASYA is instilling of 2 drops of oil in the nose just before
inhalation.
GANDOOSHA Or gargling lasts for 5 minutes using different kinds
of liquids (depending on each individual's need)
DANTA DHAVANA 5 minutes of teeth cleaning with a herbal powder
so as to prevent infections.
ANJANA Is the lining of the rims of the eye with an anti
infection paste for 5 minutes. To improve eyesight and delay cataract
formation.
KARNAPOORANA is the pouring of 2-4 drops of medicated oil in
each ear for 5 minutes .This protects the ears from infection.
SNANA Oil bath with herbal powders is administered at the end
of each session.
The first treatment session including consultation takes upto 3 hours.
Subsequent sessions take approximately 90 minutes.
DHARA
Is a treatment whereby the patient is made to lie on a special wooden
bed (a droni), after which the medicated oil/ milk/ buttermilk etc are
poured in a prescribed, continuous stream on his head by the therapist
who is assisted by two other therapists who help him with the oil
application. For the oil application on the head, a wide mouthed
earthen vessel with a hole at the bottom is hung about 2 inches from
the patient's forehead. A thread hangs forth from the hole along which
the oil flows. The prescribed liquid is then poured into the vessel
and on the upper forehead in a steamy stream. The liquid drippings are
collected and the oil is poured back into the vessel. After which the
patient is given a warm bath or sometimes none at all (with the
patient simply being toweled off). The treatment continues depending
on the severity of each case.
PIZHICHIL
Is a specialized treatment meaning the squeezing of a cloth soaked in
oil over the body. During this treatment the patient is made to sit on
the droni and the medicated oils are then administered over the head
and body. By 4 therapists (2 on either side of the patient-i.e. if the
Dhara treatment is also undertaken simultaneously) .A cloth is tied
over the patient's forehead, to prevent oil from getting into the
eyes. The warm, medicated oil is then poured in a continually flowing
single stream, by squeezing a clean cloth dipped in oil over the body.
The treatment starts and ends with the patient in a sitting position.
In the duration in-between, the patient is made to lie flat. Like the
Dhara, the duration and bathing process vary with every patient. The
Pizhichil oil therapy helps alleviate skeletal and muscular disease,
rheumatoid arthritis etc.
YOGA AND MEDITATION
The yogasanas listed below are taught to each individual after a
perusal of his physical condition
Surya Namaskar Thalasana Ardha
Chandrasana
Thrikonasana
Vajrasana
Bavanamuktasana
Swastinkasana Siddhasana
Padmasana
Savasana
Sarvangasana
Bhujangasana
Any undue exertion is discouraged. The patient is asked to perform the
asanas only to the extent it is possible by him. Meditation sessions
are also conducted when the Pranayama is taught in addition to other
meditation techniques.
