prevalent weariness and fatigue can be cured by administering
medicated herbal oils during the daily sessions of oil therapy,
internal medicines as well as the prescribed yoga postures leading to
a feeling of vitality and well-being.
Extendable to... The 14 day program which is a more intensive
course wherein the oil therapy pervades beyond the 14 layers of the
skin, right down to the bone marrow. This results in an alleviation of
joint pain, spondilitis and insomnia. It also gives the physician an
opportunity to confirm the validity of his treatment. And/or provide
him an avenue to change the course of the treatment if necessary. It
also gives the patient the additional time to learn some of the more

PROGRAM
TWO THE 21 - DAY PROGRAM is even more encompassing in that the oil
begins to penetrate right into the body to benefit the internal
organs. And operates as a detoxification process. Wherein week one is
the observation period of consultations, diagnosis and prescriptions.
Of determining internal medication, diets and external treatments. Of
Abhyanga, yoga, meditation and consultation with our in-house
astrologer. Week two is more intensive. It's when the actual treatment
begins. The commencement of Dhara and Pizhichil, amongst others (on a
predetermined auspicious day). Also during this week total
mental/physical rest and a strict diet is advised. Week three is the
post-treatment period. When the patient is actually weaned off the
intense treatment. But the rest and diet continues. Preferably with
the patient internalising these principles for life.
Extendable to... The 35 - day program which is the ideal
therapeutic package. For according to Ayurveda, it takes 28 days to
convert food into its final essence (Ojas). So over 35 days, one is
ensured of complete detoxification. This treatment package follows the
same procedure for the first three weeks. Followed by the essential
period of complete rest and internalisation during weeks four and
five.
VARTHARAKTHA
(RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS): Vartharaktha is a syndrome in Ayurveda
that perhaps comes closest to what we refer today as rheumatoid
arthritis. It is considered to be a condition caused by metabolic
disturbances and manifests itself in the joints. Excessive physical
strain are thought to aggravate the vital energies (governing the
functioning of vital organs) causing a certain amount of contamination
to build up in the blood and obstruct its course thereby accounting
for the occurrence of localised agitation in the blood.
To treat Arthritis, the physician would first conduct an exhaustive
examination to determine the patient's constitution and personality.
After which a dose of concentrated herbal extracts would be
recommended for internal consumption and medicated oils, pastes will
be prescribed for external application to control the pain and
swelling of inflamed joints.
If the patient has already been on a course of allopathic medicine,
they need to be slowly tapered off and replaced by Ayurvedic
decoctions. Only once the acute condition is controlled and the
patient is able to move about, then the application of oils, over the
head and body are commenced. The minimum recommended duration for the
treatment is 35 days.
AMAVATHA
(SPONDILITIS): In its broadest sense, spondilitis is arthritis in
the spine. A chronic and progressive inflammatory disease. The spinal
column of a spondilitis patient resembles a bamboo in stiffness, with
the bones being entirely fused together. Initial symptoms of this
disease are lower back pain and stiffness that is often worse in the
early hours of the morning or after prolonged hours of inactivity
during the day. It is also not uncommon for the pain to spread to the
hip, buttocks and shoulder region. Or even alternate from side to
side. Ayurveda aims at preventing or minimising the deformities of the
spine inherent in this disease. For which treatments like Dhara and
Pizhichil also prove to be extremely helpful. It provides good relief
from acute pain.
MIGRAINE
: Needless to say, headaches are perhaps the most common and
frequent discomforts experienced. They may arise as a harmless
reaction to stress or fatigue. Or, they may be symptoms of a more
serious underlying condition - like a stroke or tumor. The common
migraine usually appears unannounced by any premonitory symptoms. It's
clinical characteristics include a throbbing and/or a dull ache
(worse) behind one ear or eye, nausea and vomiting. Ayurvedic
treatment of migraines begins with a detailed examination which
includes a pulse examination after which herbal liquid concentrates
are prescribed. Measures to provide temporary relief includes
medicated powders mixed with oil, lemon juice or rose water and the
resulting paste is applied on the forehead. On each day of the
treatment, oil therapy is administered upon the body and head to
improve circulation. Yoga is also an integral part of this treatment.
The purpose of ayurveda in the cure of migraines is to first and
foremost reduce the intensity of pain. After which begins the process
of increasing the period between two attacks. Extricating the patient
from drug dependency. And improving his/her health.
The patient experiences relief in about 7 days. But the minimum
recommended duration is 21 days.
PARALYSIS:
One of the
leading causes of paralysis is cerebrovascular diseases, like a stroke
or brain contusion. And among the various types of paralysis,
Hemiplegia and Paraplegia are the two most common types. Hemiplegia is
characterised by the loss of strength in the arm, leg and sometimes
even in the face - one side of the body. Whereas Paraplegia is the
paralysis of both the lower extremities. To treat paralysis a
physician specialising in Ayurveda would take into account several
dietary, psychological and life-style factors. And then over a course
of 45 days he would administer certain internal medications and
external applications to help the patient's system digest the toxins
present.
