Excursions :All of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Jammu & Kashmir are easily accessible from Chandigarh. With the hills close by, cool environs are very easily reached by road. Chandigarh also acts as a gateway to many pilgrimage centres in the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

HIMACHAL PRADESH :

Kasauli:77 kms from Chandigarh A hill station popular for its unspoiled charm and quiet nature trails. At night one gets a lovely view of the lights of Chandigarh from here. Several reputed public schools are located near Kasauli, the one at Sanawar being the most prestigious.

Timber Trail: A popular rope way tourist resort located in the picturesque valley near Parwanoo on the Kalka – Shimla highway. ‘A must see’ for tourists. People of Chandigarh frequently visit this resort on week ends.

Chail :107 kms. from Chandigarh Built by the Maharaja of Patiala as the summer capital of the old princely State of Patiala, Chail provides a superb view of the mountains. The palace is an elegant hotel today. There are many smaller lodges located nearby. Chail boasts of the world’s highest cricket pitch.

Solan-Shimla:12 kms from Chandigarh.Shimla, capital of Himachal Pradesh and once the summer capital of British India continues to be a popular destination. Driving from Chandigarh to Shimla, one passes through the large hill town of Solan, famous for its brewery. One may motor up to Solan and Shimla or take the picturesque mini-train. Northern Railway has introduced a luxury train ‘ Shivalik Palace’(Kalka-Shimla) on demand. Further may be sought from the Northern Railway Reservation Centre, ISBT, Sector 17, Telephone: 708573.

Bhima Kali Temple, Sarahan:The shrine, part of the Panchayatan group of temples, dates back to the 11th and 14th centuries. Ancient idols unearthed from this spot are on display. This spot is nearly 10 hours beyond Chandigarh.
