Places of Interest

  • India Gate : The 42 meters high, freestanding arch was designed by Lutyens and built in 1931. It was originally called the All India War Memorial in memory of the 90000 soldiers of the Indian Army who died in World War I. in 1971 and Eternal Flame was lit here to honor the Amar Jawan (Eternal Soldier).

  • Jantar Mantar : This observatory within Connaught Place was built in 1724 by the Rajput king of Jaipur. It was believed to be built with masonry instruments for observing the movement of stars and planets.

  • Parliament House : A marvelous piece of architecture, close to rashtrapati bhawan, it is a domed structure alosmt s kilometer in circumference, and was designed by the famed architect Lutyen. It is the seat of the Indian Parliament.

  • Dilli Haat : The dilli haat, located opposite the INA Market, jointly set by the New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Tourism. One of the primary objectives of setting this complex was to provide marketing facilities to rural artisans. It is an ideal place to spend some time while admiring the great array of handicrafts, Jewellery, garments and artifacts representing the workmanship of almost all parts of the country.

  • Red Fort : Red fort or Lal quila, laid out along the river Yamuna as an irregular octagon and is built of red sandstone. The fort has two entrances, the delhi gate and the lahori gate which faces the famous chandni chowk market.

  • Rashptrapti Bhawan : The official residence of the president of the Indian public , It was the official residence viceroy during the British rule . With 340 rooms and an area of about 330 acres, special permission is required to visit the complex. The mughal gardens are a treat for the eyes and are open to the public during certain periods of the year.

  • Birla Mandir : Close to connaught place it was built by the industrialist raja Baldev Birla in 1938. Mahatma Gandhi who inaugurated the temple was also a regular visitor to it and would often pray there.

  • Jama Masjid : The largest mosque in the country, built in 1656, it lies opposite to the Red Fort. The flight of stairs and its large courtyard are marvels of architecture

  • Cremation sites of National Leaders :
    On the banks of the river Yamuna are the national shrines: Raj Ghat(Mahatma Gandhi), Shanti Vana(Jawaharlal Nehru), Vijay Ghat(Lal Bahadur Shastri), Shakti Sthal (Indira Gandhi), Vir Bhumi (Rajiv Gandhi).

  • Qutub Minar : The magnificent structure in the southern part of New Delhi was built in 1199. The Minar (Tower) is 72.5 meters high and has its base as a mosque. Tourists are not permitted to climb the tower.
