Namchi
Namchi, literary translating as the "Top of the Sky", 78 kms from
Gangtok is the headquarter of the South Sikkim. Bon Monastery at Kewzing
is one of the interesting place close to Namchi is unique in nature in
Sikkim.
Ravangla
Ravangla ,reminiscent of a town from wild west,is a sleepy hamlet at
about a height 7000 ft.The township comes alive during the Pang Lhabsol
festivities the spectacular Warrior Dance is performed. Ravangla town
and surrounding villages are an ideal place to experience the rich
cultural and natural heritage of Sikkim. 26 kms downhill from Ravangla a
lake formed by Rangit Dam is definitely a ideal place for youngone with
boating,fishing and swimming facilities.
Menam peak
The peak of Menam (10,800 ft.) is a 12-km up-hill trek from Ravangla.
The route winds trough a thik forest of oak,chestnut, magnolia and
rhododendrons and a natural habitat of the Red Panda, Black Bear and
many species of Deers.
Tendong Hill
According to the Lepcha lore "Upraised horn", the Tendong Hill (8,530
ft.) is a sacred place in South Sikkim. As from the lore, when a great
flood submerged their land Tendong rose up miraculously like a horn to
save them.
Temi
Tea Estate
18 kms from Ravangla, Temi Tea Estate is one of the most beautiful tea
garden in Sikkim. One can see the pluking of tea-leaves from the garden
and processing of tea in the factory. Tea produced here has a rare
combination of liquor and flovour.
