Its 2,000 hectares of green with hills,
mountains, ponds and rivers, namely the "Grande Rivière Sud-Est."
"L'Etoile" was previously a private
hunting domain now open to the public and to tourism; thanks to "Ciel
et Nature" managers and owners of the place for their excellent
vision.
Situated in the south-east of Mauritius,
the domain includes one of the most ancient sugar mill of Mauritius,
(now abandonned) that is Ferney and it
spreads towards the bay of Mahebourg in the South, to the historic
bungalow of "Falaises Rouges" overlooking
the "Vieux Grand Port Lagoon.
L'Etoile is definitely the most
preserved region of Mauritius. Apart from its English garden and its
rivers, the domain counts indigenous woods rich of hundreds of
different varieties of plants and trees, including the most ancient
ebony trees of Mauritius and other endemic species. This habitat being
favorable to the survival of several wild animals, visitors will be
able to watch deer, boars, monkeys and bats as well as rare species of
birds like the "Cateau vert" and the "Crescerelle".

The landscape being mountainous, the
domain offers several viewpoints from which magnificent panoramic
views on more than half of Mauritius can be seen; from the central
plateaus to the Lion Mountain via the Moka range.
L'Etoile proposes several services and
excursions offering
different ways of visiting this domain. There is, first of all its "Table
d'hôte" where receptions can be organized. It is situated in
the main building; previously the hunting camp, this building is also
the reception and meeting point for the excursions such as
trekking, 4 X 4
ranging, Quad biking, and
Mountain-biking
The impressive area of L'Etoile allows that each sport activity has
its own set of tracks.
