Ganesh is an eternal household god of
modern Hinduism. Defined as remover of obstacles, he is propitiated at the beginning of
any undertaking whether, it be a journey, the building of the house or writing of a book or even
a letter. It was he who at the dictation of sage Vyasa , wrote the Mahabharat.He is one of
five deities of tradition Panchayatan, he is patron deity of a cult known as Ganpatya. His

In Maharashtra, the older mantra of "OM NOMAB
SIDDAM" as the beginning of alphabet was discarded in favour of "SHREE GANESHAYA
NAMAH". It remained so about the end of first decade of 20 century. The expression
"SHREE GANESH" is used idiomatically for very basics in much the same manner in
