Silvassa has lush green forests covered
with tall trees, meandering rivers, large waterfronts, cascading
waterfalls, the gentle gurgle of streams, the distant hills, and a
gorgeous kaleidoscope of flora and fauna. The serene and sylvan land of
silvassa is Nature at her best.
Silvassa quiet magical land of 70 villages sandwiched between the states
of Maharashtra and Gujarat near Daman was under the Portuguese till it
attained freedom in 1954. The people took over the administration under
the system of self-government.
Silvasa is the town capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory,
western India. The town is located about 13 miles southeast of Daman on
the Daman Ganga River some 15 miles (25 km) inland from the Arabian Sea.
It is the economic centre of the territory which is primarily
agricultural and produces rice, pulses, and fruit crops.
Silvassa even today retains the traces of Portuguese rule. It is a
`Garden Beautiful' with the roaring waterfalls, misty cascades, rustic
stone walls, twin arches, tiny kiosks and springing lawns interspersed
with islands of flowers.
