- Tara
Devi Temple - 2.5 Kms
Situated 1851 meters above sea level between Shoghi and Shimla,
the top of Tara Devi Mountain called Tarab is distinct with renowned
calm and tranquil temples dedicated to the Goddess of Stars(taron ki
devi), Tara Devi. The temple on the Hill top keeps everyone under
the protective gaze, showering innumerable blessings on her
worshippers. There are two temples of Taradevi at hill top, one is
Chandi Avtar and other is Vashno Doodhadhari Avtar. Between the two
temples is the gateway to the first monkey park (Vanar Sarankshan
Park) of the state spread over an area of 232 hectare.

Shiv Mandir is situated at the central point of Tarab hill in the
dense forest below the famous Taradevi temple.

Prachin Hanuman Mandir - 6 Kms.
The Temple is famous for old 4 feet high stone statuette of God
Hanuman, A legend says that Hanuman put his feet on this place while
coming back with Sanjeevani. This place was pressed with his feet
and foot prints are also being worshiped. Many people visit the
place on Sunday to treat old diseases and to get rid of bhoot- pret
-shetan and horrific shadows (witch-craft).

THE MALL
: All visitors to Shimla inevitably walk down the Mall, the
main promenade that runs along the top of the ridge-a busy shopping
area with old colonial buildings, souvenir shops and restaurants. At
the top end of the Mall is Scandal Point, a large open square with a
view of the town-a favourite rendezvous for visitors and the local
people. Overlooking it is the elegant Christ Church with its fine
stained glass windows. The labyrinth of Shimla's bazaars spill over
the edge of the Mall. The Intriguing Architectural Grandeur The core
of the Mall is a row of shops that take the approximate mid section
of the road and traverse for about a kilometre and a half along is
length. At one point of time, it was regarded to be as fashionable
as the finest streets of London, Paris or St. Petersburg.
Architecturally, this stretch is often likened to an English small
town market place.

THE
RIDGE : This place is an open space in the heart of town and
offers outstanding views of the distant mountain ranges. The two
prominent landmarks of Shimla, the Neo-Gothic structure of Christ
Church and the new Tudor Library building are the other attractions
located here.

Christ
Church : Shimla
is dotted with a number of churches. The most attractive ones are
the Christ Church and St. Michaels Cathedral. The Christ Church has
a massive structure. St. Michaels Cathedral, built in 1850 was the
first Catholic church of Shimla. It is the only one boasting of five
marble altars, all brought from Italy. There are also statues
of sacred hearts of Jesus, immaculate heart of Mary, St Theresa. A
marble statue of Christ on the outer wall attracts visitors by its
sheer beauty.

VICEREGAL
LODGE: This
magnificent English renaissance structure was the former Viceregal
lodge. Gothic splendor of the Viceregal Lodge now houses the
Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, India's premier academy for
higher research. Also famous as “Rashtrapati Niwas”, it is a
spectacular building located on the Observatory Hills and was
formerly the residence of the British Viceroy Lord Dufferin. Its
construction was accomplished in the year 1888 and every brick for
the building was carried by mules according to the sources. The
massive six-story building is surrounded by well manicured gardens
and lawns.

HIMACHAL
STATE MUSEUM :
Very close to the Institute, in a colonial building set in spacious
lawns, is the museum. It has collections of Pahariminiatures, stone
sculpture, local handicrafts, textiles and embroidery.

SUMMER HILL :
It is a scenic spot located near Shimla
at an altitude of 1,283 meters and is much visited by the tourists.
The legendary Indian leader, Mahatma Gandhi during his sojourn in
Shimla spent some time in the elegant Georgian House of Raj Kumari
Amrit Kaur located here.

PROSPECT
HILL : A 15 minute climb from Boileauganj, Prospect
Hill is another favorite walk and vantage point with breath taking
views. There is a little temple to Kamna Devi on the top of the
hill.

WILD FLOWER HALL :
Wild flower hall is situated at a
distance of 13 Kilometers from Shimla at an altitude of 2,498 mts.
on Hindustan – Tibet Road. Nestling among thick flora and fauna, the
Wild Flower Hall commands a breath taking views of snow caddied
mountains.

MASHOBRA
: Noted for its apple orchards and thick woods of
oak and pine. Mashobra is a sylvan retreat with pretty walks and
picnic spots. A little track leads down to Sipur a grassy glade with
a stream wandering through it. Excursions are possible to Shali Peak
- the highest point in the area or to Craignano with its elegant
guest house set in a delightful flower-filled garden.

Just 6 km from Kufri, Fagu is a vantage point with panoramic views of
the ranges and valleys. Picturesquely located amid forests and
orchards, Fagu has a rest house and tourist bungalow overlooking the
Giri Valley.

KUFRI :
Kufri is a noted
summer and winter resort with its glorious views of forested slopes
and tall ranges iced in a covering of perpetual snow. A fine ski
resort, Kufri has a winter season that extends from January to
March. A sparkling winter sports festival is held each year in
February.

NALDEHRA
: The scenic,
nine hole golf course with its sparingly turf and crown of deodar
was laid out at the instance of the Viceroy, Lord Curzon. So
enamored was he by the beauty of the spot, that he named his
youngest daughter Alexandra Naldera. This is a par 68 nine hole golf
course which is regarded as one of the most challenging in the
country.

: Tattapani is
just 28 km from Naldehra, along a road winding through the scenic
country side. The hot sulphur springs here, are famous for their
invigorating and curative powers.

: A hill road
with superb views links Narkanda with Shimla. Located amidst

PEAK : Rising above forests of spruce, the Hattu
Peak is a vantage point with spectacular views. The pretty
orchard country of Thanedar and Kotgarh - beautiful in spring - are
not far away. Khadrala and Beghi with their dense forests and
Kumarsain with an interesting wooden palace are also within easy
reach of Narkanda.

CHAIL :
Situated at 45
kilometers from Shimla, Chail is a lush green setting and was
the former capital of the Patiala State. It has the world’s highest
cricket ground at a height of 7220 feet situated in the cantonment
area , as such, is out of bounds to civilians. There is a wildlife
sanctuary at a distance of 3 km from here. It is one of the few
notified regions in the state where humans and wild beasts live side
by side. The Palace of Maharaja Of Patiala has been converted into
the popular Palace Hotel. Chail is for leisurely walks in summer and
autumn, and fun in the snow in winters.

Coming by bus, Shoghi is the prominent bus
stoppage between Kandaghat and Shimla just 13 Kms short to Shimla on
Kalka Shimla National Highway No. 22. Deboard at Shoghi and taxis
are readily available for Deepjyoti. Pick up facilities are also
available. If you are coming by car, take turn to right side from
National Highway on Shoghi - Anandpur Road (also famous as Tara Devi
Temple Road) and after covering 1 Km distance you will reach Deepjyoti.
By train
Shoghi Railway station, on heritage
Kalka-Shimla small gauge railway line is just 1 kilometer from
Deepjyoti. Nearest broad gauge railway station Kalka is at a distance of
70 Kms. Some trains do not have a stoppage at Shoghi while coming from
Kalka. Pick up facility can be provided from nearest railway stations
viz. Shoghi (1 Km), Kaithlighat (5 Kms), Tara Devi (8 Kms) and Shimla
(13 Kms) at nominal rates.
By Air
Shimla Airport also known as Jubber Hatti
Airport is about 20 Kms from Deepjyoti and taxi services are readily
available for Shoghi and Deepjyoti. It is advisable to get the prior
information of weather report particularly in winter and monsoon seasons
to avoid flight delays and cancellations.
