Rajgarh :
Just 30 km from Solan Rajgarh blessed with
considerable natural beauty, is an unspoilt retreat set amidst apple
orchards. Its entry into the tourist circuit is relatively recent.
Geography It lies 30 37' and 30 51' north and 77 15' and 77 29' east at
an elevation of 2168.6 m above msl., the climate is pleasant throughout
the year.
RAJGARH is located in the heart of Sirmaur district in a lush green
valley. It is the biggest subdivision of Sirmaur with a population of
76,509. Rajgarh has two subdivisions, one is Rajgarh itself and the
other is Sarahan, another beautiful valley of Sirmaur. The total
geographical area of Rajgarh is 810 sq km and 30 per cent of the total
area is under forest. The total income from various sources, which
includes sale of peaches, other stone fruits and vegetables, is about Rs
32 crore. This also includes income from wood sold through the HP State
Forest Corporation in Rajgarh valley, which is Rs 2 crore.
Basically, the people of this area belong to Khash Rajput clan. It is
said that the local people in the Pachhota Valley called Miyans were
originally Rajputs from Rajasthan. During the freedom movement, the
village figured in the popular Pachhota movement. It played a
significant role in the liberation of states. The people of this valley
are dynamic and hardworking. They are tough, stout and basically
good-looking and simple people with sharp features. They are religious
and God-fearing and worshippers of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. The
local Shaya temple of Lord Shirgul, the descendant of Lord Shiva, has a
mammoth following. According to a legend, Lord Shirgul had first come to
Shaya village and later settled in Chur Chandani Chur-Dhar mountains at
height of 12,000 feet.
Enroute to Rajgarh
SHILLAI
Approachable by road from Paonta Sahib and Sataun and surrounded by
woods, Shillai lies close to the River Tons. It is closely allied with
the worship of local deities Shirgul and Gugga and is an important
centre of folk culture. A trek to the 3647 m peak of Choor Chandni also
called the Churdhar, loosely translated as the 'mountain of the silver
bangle', can be made from here via Haripur Dhar. A trek to Chakrata in
Uttar Pradesh is also possible from Shillai.
ARKI:
Just 52 km from Shimla, once the capital of the princely state of Baghal.
The elegant palace at Arki, picturesquely located against a wooded
hillside, is famous for its Ast Bayaka frescoes, executed in the Arki
Kalam style. Refurbished now, the palace is a Heritage Hotel.
The Jakholi Temple, at Arki, is a remarkable archetectural specimen- a
triple shrine of the 'shikhara' style. Other temples include those
dedicated to Lutuur Mahadeva, the Shakni Mahadeva, Bhairon and Durga
Mata.
NALAGARH
45 km from Pinjore in Haryana, and at the half-way point on the road to
Swarghat, Nalagarh was the capital of princely state having the same
name. The Nalagarh Valley is a long strip bounded by the heavily eroded
range of the Shivaliks in the south and west and the spurs of the outer
Himalayas to the north-east. Around the valley are the ruins of the
Surajupur, Malaon, Ramgarh and Chamba forts. Nalagarh is best known for
its fortified palace and its fine wall paintings. This palace, recently
refurbished is now a Heritage Hotel and promises an unusual royal
experience to visitors.
Activities :
Till now missing from the tourism maps Rajgarh has more to offer than
what meets the eye on a macro view. Lush Green Valleys, Dense Forest,
healthy bird life, clean and Fresh Mountain air and to top it all the
ever imposing serenity of the place will take you by surprise. Rajgarh
is more like a place where the yesterday had met today in perfect
harmony. Fully integrated communication networks, regular supply of
electricity, good transport network proximity of supply centers can make
life as urbane as you like. On the other hand the laid back village
lifestyle, scarcity and spread of population allow for a quiet and
relaxed time to yourself. The two perennial streams around the camp are
a boon to the natural beauty of the place. The bigger of the streams
even has fish, which is under constant competition by the local
community.

Clothing guidelines:
Grade * - **: Heavy woolens for mornings,
evenings and nights. Light woolens for day.

Comfortable sportswear for day.
Grade **** : Rain Coat or Umbrella Suggested, Rain friendly outfits
Carry a wind/rain proof jacket at all times due to possible sudden
weather changes and rain. Swimwear will be needed to enjoy water based
activities.
Basic comfortable clothing like shorts, T-shirts, Track-pants,
Sweat-shirts, etc. are recommended. Comfortable walking/trekking shoes
and slippers for lounging at camp and near water areas. Accessories like
Torches (mandatory), caps, binoculars, etc. are recommended. If you
prefer to carry your own sleeping bag, you may, although we provide the
same at the camps.
Hiking
The area presents endless avenues for the hiking enthusiasts. From a
two-hour hike in the surrounding area to a full day Hike to the imposing
Churdhar peak (at 12000-ft, it is the Highest peak in the Outer
Himalayas) the options are enough to keep you occupied for a while. Some
recommended options include Walk to the Syana Village Top - 1 Hr. from
the Camp and as and extension walk all the way to the Helipad and all
the way back. Roughly a three to Four Hour walk this round walk passes
offers scattered houses, fruit laden orchards at times, beautiful
wildflowers, an occasional curious mountain kid, wild fruit berries to
feast on, a beautiful dense forest and a small temple at the village
Syana.
Rock Climbing & Rappelling
Learn the basics of rock climbing on the flat rock face near the camp.
Things you can learn include three point climbing techniques, holds and
grips and energy reservoir maintenance and preservation. On the subtle
end you will also realise the importance of planning, co-ordination,
patience, listening and motivational values for your team-mates. You
will also learn the act of rappelling i.e. descending on the rock face
you just climbed but no hold or grips just the rope and you and your
knees and feet (for a group of Min 8 pax Charges Rs. 150.00 per person)
River Crossing
You also learn the act of river crossing over the base tied across the
stream.
Splash Swimming
The presence of two perennial stream around are good opportunities for
day picnics around small pools up in the valley hidden from the
whatsoever little population that exists in the area.
Fishing and Angling
A small trip to Giri Pul on the Giri River a famous spot for fishing can
be very rewarding. Of course your own gear is essential.
Bird Watching
The residents of this area agree that the bird population in the area is
a very healthy one. From the Himalayan Magpies to Mainas or even the
woodpeckers for the avid bird watcher we suggest you pack your lunch
before you move away from the camp for indulging in your favourite past
time.
Visit to the Waterfall
Hidden in to the valley is a beautiful waterfall that can give you a
good massage if you just stand under it for a few minutes. A good spot
to party around and have fun lazing around in the water.
Kite Flying
The location of the camp makes it a near perfect place to walk over to
any mountain top and get in the act of flying kites. So go ahead let it
go.
Recreation
We have a small make shift badminton court, carom, dart, badminton,
chess, daily bonfires, to keep you occupied at any time. In Planning are
things like Machaans, Monkey swings, Rope swings, Rope ladders, Tarzan
Swings etc.
The Sunrise (Set) Trek
Early morning one can set out to the nearest mountain top area to watch
the sunrise on the distant graded Himalayan Mountains. Watching the
sunset, which can be seen from many locations, from Rajgarh Mountain
tops is a treat to the eyes. Make sure you have your camera ready before
you dissolve in the plethora of colors all around you.
