Moriri lake is situated in the middle of the elevated district of Rupso.
It name is characteristic of its situation. Nestle in the midst of
20,000 feet, peals which completely shut the lake. A kilometre ahead is
a picturesque village of Korzok consisting of about a hundred families.
Visiting the monastery on the top of the village, belonging to the
yellow sect and has about 35 resident monks.
Leh to Tso Moriri,
First Day: The Ropsu valley lies south east of Ladakh on the
road from Manali to Leh at altitude ranging from 16,500 feet. It is
about 137 km from Leh and 7 to 9 hours drive. The valley is inhabited by
a small scattered population of “Changpas” nomadic shepherds who also
engage in trade and work the caravans in Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti areas.
The area is rich in wildlife including the wild ass, black necked cranes
and geese flock to the lake side for breeding during the summer months.
Overnight camp around the lake side.
Visiting around the
lake, Second Day: Visit around the lake and the monastery of
Korzok. The traveller can also enjoy the sight of country side of Kozok
village.
Tsokar to Leh, Third Day: Retrace the route to Leh, on way back visiting
Hemis, Thiksey and Shey monastery.
