Overlooking
the blue waters of the Indian Ocean, the Driftwood Beach Club is
located on a beautiful tropical palm fringed beach just south of
Malindi on the Kenyan coast. Established over 40 years ago, the
Driftwood has preserved the essence of a traditional Kenyan beach
holiday - tranquil, informal, fun and relaxed. This unique
accommodation offers sea view dining, the best pub in town and
wonderful fresh seafood. It combines hospitality, relaxation and
informality - all at its best! It also offers world class deep sea
fishing and adventurous Scuba diving.
Since it began, the Driftwood has been an important part of the
Malindi community and is a popular place to meet for a meal and a
drink.
A short distance from Malindi Town and from Malindi Airport, the
Driftwood is easily accessible. Several airlines fly a daily
scheduled service from Nairobi, Kenya's capital.
Fishing
Deep sea fishing is one of the main attractions of Malindi and
offers some of the finest big game fishing in the world. Of world
renown is the sailfish and broadbill fishing. Three of the Marlin
family also occur on the north Kenya coast – black marlin, blue
marlin and striped marlin and, along with numerous other species, it
is easy to see why Malindi is famous for its great variety of deep
sea fishing. It is internationally recognized that Kenya offers one
of the best chances to catch a ‘fantasy slam’ (5 different billfish
species in one day). A wide variety of angling, including fly
fishing for sailfish and broadbill, overnight trips to North Kenya
Banks for broadbill, marlin, yellowfin tuna and shark can be
arranged from the Driftwood Beach Club. The season starts in late
July and runs through to early April.

(large 13th - 17th century deserted Swahili town) which are always
worth a visit. Or take a sundowner dhow cruise on Mida Creek - a
rare experience!

Alternatively, let us organize a safari for you to Tsavo East,
Kenya's biggest National Park where a variety of animals such as
elephant, lion, leopard and a host of plains game can be seen. Tsavo
East is also rich in bird life.
Scuba Diving out of Malindi offers a wonderful experience for
beginners as well as experienced divers. All lessons and diving
excursions are handled by experienced PADI Divemasters and
Instructors. Diving takes place in the nearby Marine National
Parks and Reserves with their spectacular 'drop offs' - where you
can see barracuda schools, turtles, grouper, scorpion fish, moray
eels, stingrays, and a myriad of other colourful fish. When in
season our coast is famous for whalesharks and manta rays, to dive
with them is one of the most fantastic adventures of the
underwater world.
Snorkeling -
Snorkel in Kenya's coral reefs. Whether viewed through a glass
bottomed boat or with a mask, snorkel and flippers, the variety
and colours of the coral and fish are simply stunning. You will be
surprised how close you can get to the tropical fish without
upsetting them in these wonderful Coral Gardens.

The Kenya Coast is a bird watching haven and hosts three Important
Bird Areas.

indigenous coastal forest to which a visit can be arranged. The
Sokoke Scops Owl, the Sokoke Pipit or Clarke's Weaver are all
peculiar to this forest. You could also hope to see the Elephant
Shrew and the Bushy Tailed Mongoose.

home to large numbers of wading birds including the more elusive
Greater Flamingos and Crab Plovers and has wonderful bird watching
opportunities.
