Arunima is one of the very few heritage residencies in Alappuzha town.
It is situated in a calm and quiet residential area at a walkable
distance from the Alappuzha beach and close to the beautiful canal. Our
homestay service is intended to encourage home stays and provide the
guests with facilities of a home away from their homes.
Arunima canal view bungalow is a two storied heritage homestay at
Alleppey. It’s an 80 year old home along the backwater canal and near to
the famous Alappuzha Beach. The large common room with a nice balcony
overlooking the beautiful canal is only one of the major attractions
where our guests can sit and relax at any time of the day. The view from
the balcony and the rooms creates a perfect ambience for an enjoyable
stay. The house has been built in the typical style of the Guajarati
Havelis with plenty of woodwork and a big open to sky area inside the
building though which one can see the sun and rain sitting inside the
building.
Arunima heritage home , another homestay, is a beautiful palatial house
constructed in kerala architectural style with tiled roof wooden ceiling
teak wood doors and windows with spacious rooms and toilets, is situated
in a calm and quiet residential area near to the canal and the beach.
This ancient mansion was built by the famous kutch architect who was
among the kutchi memon group that came in early nineteenth century to
Kerala and settled in Kochi and Alappuzha, during the time of Raja
Kesavadass, the Dewan of Travancore. Standing away from the busy streets
but still inside the city with almost one kilometer to the railway
station and at walkable distance to the beach, this homestay stay high
in its category.
One can find all the modern amenities inside both the buildings. The
spacious and fresh air naturally circulating rooms are clean and simple.
The rooms have the options to be air conditioned or non air-conditioned
according to the requirements of the guests. The ancient furniture that
we have in our home is really worth seeing. The well furnished rooms
with modern amenities compete with the ancient look of the rooms
maintain their uniqueness without contradicting each other.

Attractions

Kuttanad, called the rice bowl of
Kerala, is because of her wealth of paddy crops, is at the very heart
of the backwaters. The scenic countryside of Kuttanad with its
shimmering waterways also has a rich crop of banana, cassava and yam.
This is perhaps the only region in the world where farming is done 1.5
to 2 m below sea level. Inland waterways which flow above land level
are an amazing feature of this region.

Pathiramannal is a
small island found in the Vembanad Lake near Alleppey. This
magnificent location can only be traveled to on a boat. Its remote
location adds to the intrigue for those that especially love to
explore. Birdwatchers love to travel to this breathtaking location is
hundreds of rare migratory birds like to gather there. It is possible
to see such birds as golden-backed woodpeckers, night herons,
kingfishers, paradise fly-catchers, egrets, bulbuls, shrikes, morning
doves, crow pheasants, and drongos. A visit to this remarkable
location will be memorable for the rest of your life.

Sri Krishna temple
located at Ambalapuzha, 14 km from Alleppey, is among Kerala's more
famous ones, boating through of the typical temple architectural style
of the state. It is equally famed for its palpayasam, sweet milk
porridge offered to the diet. The temple's main festival occurs in
March/April. It was in this temple that the 16th century poet Kunjan
Nambiar staged his first Ottan Thullal, a solo dance performance with
a high social content.

Karumadikuttan : Black
granite figure of Budha: Close to Ambalapuzha, the village of Karumadi
is famous for its Karumadi Kuttanm a black granite figure of Budha,
said to belong to the 9th or 10th Century. During his visit to Kerala
in 1965, the Dalai Lama worshipped at this shrine.

Arthinkal is known for
the St. Andrews Church established by Portuguese missionaries in 1951.
The feast of St. Sebastian is held here every January.

Punnapra : A short
distance from Alleppey is Punnapra, a village that has gone down in
history as the scene of a battle between the Communists group and the
Travancore State Police in thePunnapra - Vayalar Communist Uprising of
1946.

Mannarasala : 32 km
from Alleppey is a very important center of serpent worship in Kerala,
Built in a cool grove of trees and shrubs, this temple is said to
contain 30,000 images of snake-goods, which line the path to the
temple

Champakulam Church :
One of the oldest churches in Kerala, the St. Mary's Church is
believed to be one of the seven established by St. Thomas. The annual
feast at this church falls on the 3rd Sunday of October every year.
The feast of St. Joseph is celebrated on March l9th.

Chavara Bhavan :
Chavara Bhavan is the ancestral home of the blessed Kuriakose Elias
Chavara. It is now a holy shrine and spiritual resort where thousands
of devotees gather for prayer, receive favours and feel amply
gratified. Here, a 250 year old historically important beacon of light
is preserved intact in its original and primitive form.

Krishnapuram Palace :
Built by Marthanda Varma, this palace at Karthikapally in Kayamkulam
is famous for its mural, depicting the story of Gajendramoksham.
Dating back to the l8th century, this exquisite piece of art is one of
the largest murals in Kerala. The palace museum houses antique
sculptures, paintings and bronzes.

The snake boat races
are an event held in the highest esteem here. The Nehru Trophy snake
boat race takes place every year on the second weekend of August in
the lakes of Punnamada and Chambakkulam. Another noteworthy race is
the Payipad Boat Race, which begins from the 'Onam' festival day and
continues for three days.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race :
Nehru Trophy Boat Race is the biggest and the most famous
event. The world renowned Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held at Punnamada
lake in Alappuzha on the second saturday of August every year .The
event is a commemoration of the visit to this place by the late Prime
Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1952. The spectacular races
feature magnificent snake boats or 'Chundans'. The boisterous and
rhythmic boat songs or Vanchipattu work the spectators to a state of
frenzy.

ChampakulamMoolam Boat Race :
The oldest and most popular snake boat race in Kerala, and is
closely connected to the Sree Krishna Temple at Ambalappuzha. The race
is held on the Champakulam Lake on the moolam day of the Malayalam
month Midhunam, the day of the installation of the deity at the
Temple.

Aranmula boat Race :
The two day Aranmula Boat Race is more a water fiesta than a
competition, conducted during Onam. The boat race proper is held in
the afternoon.
