Dewalokam is one of the very special home
stays in Kerala based on the principles of Sustainability and

premises and the whole family and the staff give undivided attention to
the visitor from the time the guest arrives until his departure, with
out interfering with his privacy.
Dewalokam is an exceptionally beautiful
farm on the banks of Kannadipuzha in the lower and middle ranges of Blue
(Neel Giri) Mountains of the Western Ghats. Dewalokam spreads over an
area of ten acres. The other side of the river is the pristine tropical
forest, protected by the forest department of the Government of India.
Dewalokam is a farm that is forested with well yielding rubber trees,
littered with huge teak, mahogany, ayani, mango, jack trees, white
Cheeny, sizeable Elau trees, a number of big and yielding tamarind,
different mongustan species, a lot of flower plants including orchids,
climbers, varieties of water and normal bamboos and spices like nutmeg,
cinnamon, pepper and varieties of mint like thulasi, red cheera, and
everywhere varieties of taro plants with their lush oil green leaves.
The twittering and hooting of the birds and animals all around adds to
the feeling that you are in a forest.
Accommodation
We have four houses on the bank of the
Kannadipuzha river. Three houses with fifteen double bedded rooms are
available for the guests. Eight bedrooms are on the first floor of the
central block that over looks the Nilgiri mountains beyond the river and
the forest. On the ground floor it has a lounge with restaurant and a
kitchen in addition to the four rooms for ayurvedic treatment with
additional toilets. Three bedrooms / apartments are available in the
nearby 'Nalukettu' the traditional home of the Keralites with wooden
walls and an atrium: an open space within each room. Each apartment has
its own modern bath, shower and toilettes. One can be outside the room
while inside the apartment and enjoy fresh air with total privacy here.
The remaining four rooms are in a building about two hundred meters from
the other three. This house with four twin bedded rooms is something
very special for people who love nature and want to be close to the
nature. The house is in a forest. You are woken up with the music of the
wild birds. They are around the house the whole day. The swarms of birds
of different feathers form a community of convenience and they move in
swarms. They have have their own early warn system if a predatory bird
is spotted. You can see them and hear them. They return to the trees
around the house several times every day. This house offers extreme
quiet atmosphere and sereneness. We arrange pick up and return to the
house. Attached modern bath rooms with bathtubs and twenty four hour hot
and cold running water is the standard convenience at Dewalokam.
