Constructed during the British era, these well maintained heritage
bungalows offer visitors the nostalgic experience of reliving a
laid-back lifestyle long forgotten; a cherished dream for city-weary
urbanites desperate for a respite from the concrete jungle. All
bungalows offer a panoramic view of the tea and eucalyptus plantations.
Inside, the rooms are spacious with most of them having fireplaces,
making the room very comfortable and cozy. The decor and the feel is
reminiscent of the British era. These have been embellished with modern
amenities and artifacts, all personally handpicked and placed, making an
ambience of quiet cultural richness.
Chokanad Bungalow
A typical Tea Garden Bungalow in the English Suburban Style, Chokanad
Bungalow was build in the year 1914. Chokanad is believed to be the
first mountain to be identified in the great Trigonometric survey. The
bungalow was extensively renovated in 1963 after wild elephants went on
a rampage. The view from the bungalow is spectacular. The bungalow is
tastefully furnished with many of them original furniture of the
colonial occupants. Inside, the rooms are spacious and having a
fireplace for a warm cozy atmosphere.
Kaniamally Bungalow
Kaniamally Bungalow was built in the year 1926 and is a typical Tea
Garden bungalow built in the English suburban style. Extensive repairs
had to be made after the 1934 floods in the high range region. Inside,
the rooms are spacious with most of them having fireplaces, allowing a
warm glow to make you feel cozy and comfortable. The beauty of the
surrounding landscape will take your breath away with awe. You may be
lucky to watch wildlife passing by while you are sipping tea in the
beautiful garden outside
Parvathi
Bungalow
Parvathi
was the first wild area to be opened to tea cultivation on a large
scale. The original bungalow was built in the year 1917 by A.W. Sharp,
the manager of the estate. Named after Lord Shiva’s wife, it is located
by the side of the hill named Seven Mallay or Lord Shiva’s mountain.
Originally called Shiva Mallay, the name metamorphosed into Seven Mally
as the English colonials pronounced ‘Shiva, as ‘Seven’.
The bungalow is spacious and furnished with the remnants of the original
pieces of the colonial era. The décor and feel transports one back into
the times of the British days. The fireplace will transcend the much
needed warmth to your body and soul.
Sevenmally Bungalow
Built in
the year 1925, this typical Tea Garden bungalow of the English suburban
style of the mid 1920’s. This bungalow in the High Range has a
prizewinning front garden. Located at vantage point, the bungalow has
fireplaces, furniture and fittings that are typical of the period. The
bungalow is spacious and comfortable with the décor and artifacts that
will transport your back into the British era. Wildlife can be sometimes
seen sauntering by. The surrounding panoramic beauty of the tea &
eucalyptus landscape is sure to thrill you beyond your wildest dreams.

Living Area: The colonial British built the living areas in the
bungalows to be very spacious so as to accommodate family leisure and
also to entertain guests with lavish parties. The wooden floor boards
were erected to bring the virtues of nature into their homes. Fireplaces
and hearths were installed to bring in cozy warmth and keep the cold
out. The furniture at the bungalow is of the colonial era and is
adequately comfortable to relax and take it easy. Huge windows line the
walls to bring in the desired light and ventilation.
Bedroom: The bedrooms were built large in size to accommodate
elaborate bedsteads and furniture. ‘Intent to relax and adamant to be
comfortable’ is written all over the place. Apt colonial style furniture
is well placed around the room. Huge windows allow natural lighting and
cross ventilation.
Dining Area: Dining areas are designed with intention to have
pleasant meal times. The large wooden dining table can accommodate a
good number of guests for parties and get-togethers.
Kitchen: The kitchens are elegant and of colonial era style. They
are designed to be user-friendly and comfortable for making delicious
meals.
Books: All Bungalows have a collection of books that is both
informative and entertaining. They will surely keep you happily occupied
for long periods of time.
Photographs: The walls of the bungalows are lined with painting
and photographs that are much valued for their history. There are
photographs of the original colonial builders and occupants of the
place. These photographs are very interesting and portray the lives and
styles of the bygone era.

Adventure & Recreation
Mountain
biking, trekking, horse and elephant riding, guided walks and other
excursions can be arranged. Golf is available at either High Range Club
or at Kundale Club. Rainbow trout angling can be organized. Facilities
of the High Range club and Kundale club can also be availed which offers
the usual club activities such as snooker, pool, a well-stocked bar etc.
Apart from activities like golf, tennis etc. this vast tract of land
offer some of the finest trekking trails. Accessible only to the guests
of "The Tea Sanctuary", you are treated to some of the most visually
enthralling sights of wildlife and nature. It is a photographers
delight, with its unceasing array of subjects. Do carry a binocular and
camera for an unforgettable experience of Bird watching.
Among the picturesque green turfs of Munnar, several 9 hole golf courses
are available. Besides, facilities for games of tennis, squash and
