Jungle Retreat is not just a holiday destination of peerless beauty and infinite
variety; it is a practical project in sustainable eco tourism.
A working farm
The property is surrounded by thick jungle on all four sides, but amazingly it
is also a working farm! The farm is split into multiple levels of cultivation
all of which is conducted in a completely organic manner. We don't use any
pesticides for any of our crops and this ties in with our policy of organic
farming and going green!
Indigenous crops native to Kerala are cultivated and along with paddy, you can
also enjoy the finest of vegetable, fruit, herbal and spice garden at the Jungle
Retreat. Stroll around with a basket, pick what you'd like to have for lunch and
dinner; we will prepare it for you in traditional Kerala style.
Conservation
In Wayanad the guests see India at her wild best. The local Kurava and
Kuruchia tribes are partners in the Jungle Retreat project, so your visit not
only conserves the environment but also pays for the education and welfare of
the people who call this remote and magnificent region their home
The community
Though there are 5 different tribes in these parts of the world, the Kuravar
and the Kuruchiar are the dominant ones. Kuruvars are the farmers and the
Kuruchiars are master hunters
There have been some changes in their livelihoods due to their contact with the
outside world, but in their hearts they are still the hunter-gatherers. Spending
time with these people of the forest is an enchanting and fascinating
experience.
Body
Jungle Retreat is made for adventure: guests enjoy complete freedom to
choose how they spend their time so the only barrier is your own imagination.
Trek through the jungle with trained guides, go on a game drive and watch the
animals from the comfort of your vehicle, visit Thirunelli temple and other
places of historic significance, take a dip in the gurgling streams, go
fishing or just laze around with your favourite book in your big & comfy
balcony sipping on your drinks.

Soul - A place of deep serenity, Jungle Retreat
attracts big game just as it attracts guests; both groups know they will be safe
and well looked after, free to roam unconfined and undisturbed. At the Star Beds
on raised platforms with only the boundless equatorial sky with millions of
stars for a ceiling - you will awaken to find elephants drinking in the pool
below you, timid Chital deer and wild boar waiting their turn on the sidelines.
