Winter Field Homestay and Resort - Thekkady / Kerala
[[Thekkedy][Reservation]

Winter Field Homestay and Resort Thekkady outer

The Winter Field resort is without doubt, one of the South India's unique holiday destinations. Simple, elite and homely. The resort is located in one of the world's last un-spoilt frontiers, Thekkady. South India- an ancient land with a lot of interesting cultures and practices. When you are here, you will understand that in designing this resort, our architect was exploring the relationship between nature and man.

The resort is conceived and developed as a Heritage Property to bring to life the age-old traditional architectural splendor of the region with its typical timber houses and ‘Nalukettus’ with tiled roofing, which allow for living in communion with all the elements of Nature. The courtyard within the ‘Nalukettu’ in its center, around which the four wings of the house were built in timber, bring in the air, sunlight and the rain water right into the house making the inhabitants live in tune with Mother Nature.

The traditional Kerala Architecture and the craft in wood in every corner of the resort establish the cultural identity of the place.

The resort is decorated with carved wooden ceilings, curved and slatted shuttered windows, intricate interlocking beams for the roof, sculpted door panels and pagoda like tiled roofs. Intricate carvings and murals, and exquisite wall paintings reflect the prolific talent of the sculptors and painters of the olden times.

‘Nalukettu’ The wooden columns and railings in the verandah Most prominent feature in Kerala’s architecture is its gabled roofs and all wood constructions. The skillful choice of timber, accurate joinery, artful assembly and delicate carving of wood work for columns, walls and roofs frames are the unique characteristics of traditional Kerala architecture. The most remarkable emblem of traditional architecture is the ‘Nalukettu’, the ancestral homes of feudal joint families known as ‘Tharavadu’. The Nalukettu is the traditional style of architecture of Kerala, wherein a house has a quadrangle in the centre.
