Our endeavor is to bring our guests close to nature in an atmosphere unpolluted by man's modernism where the golden rays of the winter setting sun will take you into a world which has no comparison with any other park in India or the World if you want to see the Tiger in its true regality..

Chitvan....What does it mean? As per Rigveda (an ancient Indian Scripture) life is divided into four stages, namely,

Brahamcharya (Until 25 years of age)
Grahistha (From 25 till 50 years of Life)
Vanaprastha (From 50 till 75 years of Life)
Sannyas ( 75 years of Life)

By the end of second stage the householder is said to finish all his family responsibilities. He enters the third stage, Vanaprastha (The Hermit in Retreat) and renounces all worldly pleasures, he goes to the Van (Forest), to tame the animal forces of mind, by staying with the animals. This prepares him for the fourth stage of life, where he renunciates practically all his wants and desires and is a wandering ascetic in this stage.

Chitt is a product of Mind, Intellect and Ego, Van is Forest. So Chitvan is the forest which a man in his third stage of life visits to chanelize his Chitt (Mind, Intellect and Ego).

The idea behind Chitvan is to make it a retreat from Worldly Life, a Stage 3 retreat, where a person would free himself from all Illusions.

Logo of Chitvan: Lotus

"Lotus" is an aquatic plant with broad floating green leaves and bright fragrant flowers that grow only in shallow waters. In India the sacred lotus is legendary and much folklore and religious mythology is woven around it. Rich in meaning and metaphor, the Lotus symbolises divinity, fertility, wealth, knowledge and not to forget enlightenment. A symbol of strong vital force that could withstand extremely adverse conditions. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor and good luck.. It was this depth of thought that made the founding fathers of modern India enshrine the lotus in the Constitution as the National Flower

Chitvan is the most discreet of the Jungle and Safari Lodges in India. Owners, share the same vision; that it should blend into the surrounding landscape, while providing a stunning viewpoint for observing the area's wealth of Wildlife. Remoteness was the quality that most appealed to the promoters when they came across this magnificent corner of Kanha National Park.

Quintessential Chitvan, accommodation is in blocks, designed with open facades so that guests in bed have uninterrupted view of the forest and farmland in front

You will be captivated by this unspoiled corner of Kanha National Park, spread in about 14 acres of land.

Idea to construct the lodge compound and to share our patch of Wilderness with the world resulted in - 3 blocks of 4 Suites each, and two communal living areas, and a dining hall with a wide veranda overlooking the valley - are intended to offer a homely and thoroughly relaxing respite from days out on safari. In keeping with the intentions of Kanha and the local community, almost every part of the Lodge has been made by hand from natural elements. All blocks are at different areas on the site. Special emphasis has been kept on the fact to ensure a spectacular view of the forest and farmlands.

Come experience a life of both pleasure and adventure, of elemental living in an extraordinary place. We have created an experience of great Luxury and sensuality. A routine is set in this place, rising at dawn, a vigorous day in the Jungles that Kipling immortalized, a lavish evening mealback at base, you might like to enjoy the evening meals under the stars, an open to elements dining followed by Cigars, Brandy, and tales of Safari sightings around the fire. While breakfast is served at the Lodge tables by the waterhole, as wildlife gathers for a morning drink. Few Safari experiences in India are as intense and intimate.

Fabrics and textiles have been sourced from all over India (to give a complete Indian Experience), traditionally woven woolens and cotton textiles are used throughout for upholstery, bedcovers and curtains. The cottages vary in shape as they have been created to fit into the immediate environment with a minimum of disturbance. The overall effect is earthy, warm and comforting.

Chitvan blends perfectly with the surrounding countryside. The surrounding hills are wooded, and the open grassland in front is interspersed with some Sal trees, whistling thorns, and some scrub.

We have kept aside about 5 acres of land to Pick & Cook concept. There are plenty of seasonal vegetables and fruits available which are a result of organic farming. Our privileged guests will have the opportunity to pick the vegetable of their choice from our vegetable farm and cook themselves if they so desire. Certainly there will be assistance provided in our spacious and close to nature Kitchen. So you chose your menu, cut, peel, and cook yourself.

There will be classes by our expert Chef De Culinaire on Indian Cuisine. The Crockery is fired and glazed locally.A froth of fine muslin and mosquito netting shrouds the polished four poster beds which are made up with crisp white cotton sheets and handmade quilts, pillow covers recreate the romantic mood favored by ladies on safari in hot climes. The freestanding swing mirror and folding tray table are other hallmarks of Chitvan. A porcelain sink, handmade toweling robes, and mahogany toilet seats are unexpected finds. It is only when guests walk through the garden to the lake that the true identity of this romantic hideaway is revealed.

Trust us, Chitvan is Your Own Fantasy Home .
