Cocoa Island - Maldives
[Male] [Reservation] [Add Review]

Cocoa Island is a small, private island resort designed for those seeking an easygoing, foot-in-the-sand experience. The rich, warm waters and bountiful coral also promise some of the world's best beaches, snorkelling and diving.

Wake up to an empty horizon from your over-water bungalow. As evening approaches, watch a tiny fishing boat ply the cobalt ocean. Cocoa Island offers indulgent therapies,Yoga, diving, gourmet cuisine and exciting excursions.

Activities

A stay at Cocoa Island is about discovering the essence of beach living – the power of quiet and nature

Although most of our guests come to Cocoa Island to relax in privacy, there are others who spend their time exploring the local region – both above and underwater.

The diving is exceptional, with our own team available to teach beginners and challenge the experienced. You can also go deep-sea fishing, partake in watersports off the beach, like windsurfing or catamaran sailing. We offer beach drop-offs, dolphin and sunset cruises, a cookery lesson or guided snorkelling.

Eat & Drink

Immerse yourself in the tastes of the Malabar Coast, enjoying the Indian Ocean’s abundance of seafood

Our approach to cuisine is modern, light and respectful of South Indian nuances. Menus also offer contemporary interpretations of other Asian and Mediterranean classics.

You can eat like a castaway using our in-room dining service, or atUfaa, our restaurant located beside the infinity pool and sea. Faru, our bar, is also popular with fine wines and tasteful cocktails.

Ingredients include organic vegetables and the day’s catch, with dishes drawing inspiration from regional and Sri Lankan spices. All menus also feature simple salads and pastas.

  • Ufaa - Ufaa, meaning happy in Maldivian, is a foot-in-the-sand space with covered and uncovered seating. It flanks the resort’s infinity-edged pool, in natural wood and Kajan thatch, and is presided over by Australian chef, Daniel Johnson.

We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with dishes showcasing the Malabar Coast’s rich gourmet heritage as well as modern interpretations of Southeast Asian cooking. The tandoor is employed to allow for fat-free, flavour-laden grilling of meats and fish.

Dishes might include tuna tartare with pomegranate dressing, avocado, tomato and  cucumber salad or whole masala spiced lobster cooked in the tandoor with lacha salad, lemon pickle and mint raita.  We also offer healthy COMO Shambhala Cuisine.

Our butlers can also serve a private dinner on your terrace, or in a silent space on the sands - lit by candlelight, under a simple tent, with the water lapping at your toes.

  • For Vegetarian - Our menus feature a high percentage of vegetarian dishes. Hot favourites include fresh fruit chaat salad with organic honey, lime syrup and almond milk granita, or tandoor aubergine with organic brown rice pilaf, mint raita and tomato chutney.

  • Room Service - Our room service menu, available from 7am until 10pm daily, includes healthy salads, indulgent desserts and familiar western-style dishes like pizzas, open-face sandwiches and pastas.

For a refreshing pick-me-up in the sun, we offer lassis as well as chilled coconut milk and morning juice blends, including a berry, banana and buttermilk smoothie scented with almonds and cinnamon.

Wellbeing

  • Wellness Path  - Discover the calming spirit of the Maldives

Cocoa Island has developed a substantial COMO Shambhala Retreat for guests seeking mental quietude, physical wellbeing and spiritual balance through Yoga, Ayurveda and other holistic treatments.

There is an open-air pavilion for Yoga practice located on the sunrise side of the island. In addition, find four treatment rooms (including one for couples), steam and large hydrotherapy pool.

COMO Shambhala Retreat at Cocoa Island also offers a series of ‘Wellness Paths’ comprising suggested treatments to help achieve the mind-body balance suited to your needs.

  • Active - The active life is a vital part of the COMO Shambhala experience. At Cocoa Island, enjoy Yoga, or use the sea and gym to keep fit and well.

  • Yoga - Complimentary daily classes are conducted at our Yoga studio (except Mondays). In addition, private instruction can help you discover the benefits of this ancient tradition or to enhance your existing practice.

  • Meditation - Learn the healing powers of meditation and better breathing with a private guided session.

  • Wellness Path

  • Therapies - At COMO Shambhala Retreat, Asian-inspired treatments include massage, emotionally rebalancing holistic techniques, facials for restorative skincare and authentic Ayurvedic therapies.

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian tradition of healing, helps restore the body to its natural state of equilibrium by rebalancing the three doshas – vata, pitta, and kapha – which make up our constitution.

  • Out Speacility - COMO Shambhala is proud to attract the very best holistic wellness experts. At Cocoa Island, we work with the following specialists:

Pramod Kumar was trained by Sri Prahalade Redi from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, India. He has been a full time teacher for the past nine years and for over four years has had his own Yoga school in India.

  • Blissfull Sleep at Cocoa - Ease into a relaxing holiday with this package, which combines a light, well-balanced meal with a deeply calming Ayurvedic session at COMO Shambhala Retreat. Quieting your mind and senses, it will send you off into the dream world to catch up on much needed sleep to restore and regenerate.

Facilities

At Cocoa Island, you can choose to do very little. Some guests find their own stretch of beach; others prefer to relax in privacy on their suite's hidden terrace, or lounge beside the resort's main swimming pool – cobalt, melting into an empty horizon.

If you want an active holiday, there is a water-sports centre with sea kayaks, catamaran, windsurf boards, a fully equipped PADI certified Dive Centre, a COMO Shambhala Retreat including several Treatment rooms, a Yoga Pavilion with a resident instructor, fully equipped gym, steam rooms and hydrotherapy pool.

Diving

Diving in the Maldives is regarded as some of the best in the world with warm and gentle seas for the absolute beginner or experienced diver. At Cocoa Island, we have a team of PADI instructors with in-depth knowledge of local waters, the coral reefs, wrecks and seasonal highlights.

We provide the kit, including Scuba Pro BCDs and regulators with 11 litre tanks. Wetsuits are long-leg and short-arm. The resort also provides Gull and Mantis masks, Technisub fins and Aladdin Pro dive computers. The compressor is a Bauer V-20.

Accomodation

Experience gentle cosseting in a blissful wilderness – a contemporary resort which reflects the Maldives' soul.

Most of Cocoa Island’s rooms are uniquely inspired by dhoni boats, the style of vessel used by local fishermen. They are adjoined by simple wooden walkways built above the shallow lagoon. From your room, walk out on to a private terrace and slip into a warm Maldivian sea.

The view from the wide platform bed is directly out to the watery expanse. The bathrooms, a bath and shower, share the horizon views. Interiors are quietly contemporary with a nod to local rusticity in Maldivian kajan roofing.

  • Dhoni Suites - Our eight, split-level bedrooms have king-sized or twin beds. The spacious living area leads onto a chic private sundeck with two chaise lounges, a dining table and direct access to the lagoon.

A highlight is the sitting area with an outsize Balinese-style day bed. The bathroom is large with a double-ended tub backed by a mirrored wall.

  • Dhoni Loft Suites -  These suites are distinguished by bedrooms on a mezzanine level beneath the rafters. You enjoy commanding views through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the ocean light softened by sheer white drapes.

They are among our most popular rooms because of the expansive living areas. A staircase leads to the loft, fitted with a king-sized bed and ensuite WC. There’s a bathroom on the lower level as well as sundeck with direct lagoon access.

  • Loft Villas - With full-length windows overlooking the Indian Ocean, these villas with expansive sundecks bring the outside in. The loft area is fitted with a king-sized bed and ensuite WC.

The main bathroom features a double vanity unit, bathtub and shower stall as well as a secluded outdoor shower with steps into the lagoon.

  • One Bedroom Villas - A private entrance deck leads into a calming, light-filled space. The bedroom features a comfortable king-sized bed and an ensuite bathroom with an island bath, separate walk-in and outdoor showers.

The spacious living room leads to the private sundeck with direct access to the lagoon, the interior style including chic whites, teaks, and contemporary, hand-finished furniture inspired by the colonial traditions of Southern India.

  • Como Villas - In our COMO villas, both the king-size and twin-bedded rooms each have an ensuite bathroom with a bath, indoor and outdoor shower and private sundeck. They also have a pantry with microwave, stove and fridge.

The spacious living room offers striking views of the turquoise lagoon through full-length windows. Four decks overhang the lagoon. Personal butlers attend to every request, making this the ideal family house for those with older children.

The COMO Sunset Villa is further distinguished by its own jetty, allowing private access to and from Cocoa Island.
