your eyes and dream of paradise…find it in the heart of the Indian
Ocean. An island in the Maldives with beautiful Banyan trees and
lush green shrubs. An island surrounded by a crystal clear blue
lagoon encompassing spectacular tropical marine life. Wake up to the
sound of birds chirping, be lulled by the gentle waves washing onto
white sandy beaches and make your dreams come true at the Royal
Island Resort & Spa.
Royal
Hospitality
Experience the unique Royal
hospitality, a legacy of hundreds of years of proud history. The
grandmother of the great Maldivian hero of all time, Boduthakurufaan,
made this island her home and is buried here. The remnant of this
rich historical heritage is preserved for its symbiosis with the
local social and natural environment, epitomizing the Maldivian
hospitality. Today, Royal Island is a vibrant reality, a marriage of
ancient traditions and modern living, dedicated to ensure that
guests experience the heart and soul of Maldives at Royal Island.
Location
Royal Island is
located in Baa atoll, 75km North West of Malé, the capital city of
the Maldives. Of a total of 50 islands in the Baa atoll, only one
fifth of them make up the population of this atoll. The remaining
islands are deserted with unspoiled wildlife and barely trodden-on
beaches. Some of these neighboring uninhabited islands are ideal
picnic spots for guests of the Royal Island and Spa.
Due to the location of Baa atoll it is influenced by the southwest
monsoon, especially from May to July, bringing in large quantities
of nutrients from the surrounding ocean which attract whale sharks
and manta rays.
The main occupation of the people of this atoll is tuna fishery.
Some of the islanders are well known for their skilled
craftsmanship. Lacquer ware is a particularly unique creation of the
people of Thulhaadhoo and is sold in many souvenir shops and resort
boutiques. Eydhafushi, the capital island of Baa atoll is famous for
‘feyli’ weaving – a traditional-style wraparound skirt for women.
Transfer
It is a smooth
journey by seaplane from the main airport to Baa Atoll. The Trans
Maldivian Airways twin-otter float plane takes 35 minutes to reach
the Royal Island platform. Before departure, Trans Maldivian Airways
provides guests with the comfort of waiting in the Royal Lounge.
Once the seaplane reaches the Royal Island platform, a boat welcomes
guests and whisks them away to their holiday paradise.

underwater wonderland that is Maldives. Fishing is an especially
exciting experience and need not be a threat to endangered marine
life.
Morning Fishing
As the dawn breaks, fish come up to feed. Throw in a line, sit back
and watch the dark sky turn to breathtaking shades of indigo, orange
and blue and soon there’ll be a huge catch to take back for lunch.
Night Fishing
It’s an opportunity to watch and be a part of the sunset from the
Dhoanis as reef fish began their nocturnal feeding frenzy. Be alert
as fish tend to eat and run, cheating the eager fisherman of his
catch.
Big Game Fishing
Be ambitious and net a
big fish. Trawling is the best method to get barracuda, wahoo,
sailfish, and it is absolutely adventurous.
Sunset Cocktail
A subdued, calm
alternative to fishing. Get on a Dhoani and enjoy a cocktail while
watching the sun go down in a kaleidoscope of colors.
Snorkeling
The lagoons of Baa Atoll are home to some of the more unique marine
life such as lionfish, angle fish and large manta rays. In order to
preserve this underwater wonderland, guests are reminded not to step
on corals, or break or take away any part of the reef.
Island Hopping
Visit one local island,
one uninhabited island and one resort. Have a barbecue and go
snorkelling on a private island and create lifetime memories.
Hello Neighbors
Let us take you to a
local island and a nearby resort for you to compare the differences.
Meet the friendly people of these tiny islands and explore their way
of life.
Overnight Picnic
No noise, no pollution,
no buildings and only your footprints. The virgin island Gemendhoo
(Royal Village) is all yours. Get “stranded” on a desert island with
only the essentials of a full picnic and your loved one. You won’t
need anything else.
WATER SPORTS
The pleasant climate and excellent facilities combine to make
Maldives one of Asia's top holiday destinations for adventure and
extreme sports. Whether you decide to take off behind a fast boat
for some wild water-skiing or wakeboarding, surf the waves, kite
board or windsurf in the warm waters, The Royal Island and Spa’s
water sports centre has everything you need for a fun-filled
holiday.
Maldivian waters are famous for big game fishing and it is recommend
that fishing enthusiasts pre-book their fishing boats, particularly
during the high season from November to May. Modern well-equipped
deep-sea fishing boats can be hired to take guests beyond the coral
reef to deep blue waters, three miles away from the island.

The calm waters of the surrounding lagoon make for excellent sailing
conditions and guests can chose from a variety of lasers and
hobicats.

cruises or evening sunset cruises.

DELPHIS
DIVING CENTER
While Maldives offers some of the
best resort facilities and hospitality, the mysteries of this island
paradise are beneath the surface. The diving centre at Royal Island
offers numerous opportunities for experienced divers and beginners
alike to explore the depths of the ocean. Depending on the season,
there are instructors who are conversant in Dutch, English, German,
French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. Delphis - Royal Island offers
PADI diving courses from beginners to instructor level, at
attractive prices.
Learning to
dive . . .
The different courses
offered at the Delphis Centre assure a calm and easy start in
shallow waters. It is essential that guests feel comfortable before
moving on to any other exercise. Experience has shown us that anyone
who wants to learn to dive, can do so. Guests are welcome to talk to
any of the instructors at the Delphis Centre to find a diving course
to suit their needs.
Beginners are offered the opportunity of a 15-minute, free scuba
diving lesson under the supervision of an instructor. The minimum
age for certified diving courses with is 10 years but children from
the age of eight years can scuba dive as a PADI Bubblemaker!
Continuing
education
All instructors at the
Delphis Centre are highly experienced and fully certified, offering
PADI and SSI courses in a number of languages. Beginners’ courses
are held in small groups of not more than five persons, for safety
reasons and to ensure personal attention. Delphis Diving Centre has
a policy to keep the diving groups as small as possible, which means
that in an average dive the group will consist of maximum six
persons within the same level while a night dive is limited to five
divers.
Dive with us!
In order to join us twice
a day on our diving trips you will first need to make an orientation
dive. The instructors will help you with your diving skills, find
out how many weights you need and get some idea of your diving
abilities. Even divers with certification are welcome to seek our
assistance for all your diving needs and we are always ready to
extend a helping hand. We offer the top range of diving equipment
such as jackets, regulators and marks, which can all be rented from
the Delphis Centre.
HOW TO START?
It would be appreciated if
guests would give at least a day’s notice of their intention to go
diving, or there is the possibility they risk having to wait an
extra day. However, it is our promise that we will do what is
reasonably possible to accommodate your requests.
