 The town of Almora, at an altitude of
2015 metres from sea level, is situated over a horse saddle shaped
ridge of a mountain. The first hill station set up by the British in
1815, today Almora is wellconnected by air, rail and road. While the
nearest airport to Almora is at Pantnagar, about 127 kms from Almora;
the nearest railway station is at Kathgodam, which is connected by
rail directly with Delhi, the capital of India, Lucknow, the capital
of the state of Uttar Pradesh and Calcutta. Local transport, private
