In the midst of this wild life
sanctuary, standing alone like a jewel in the crown, The Grand Oak
Manor, Binsar invites you to share its grandeur and history.
Previously it has played a host to a succession of luminaries and many
a famous people. Some of the most famous people who have visited this
place are:
Pundit Jawaharlal Lal Nehru,
the first prime minister of independent India, wrote “Four miles from Khali, fifteen hundred feet higher up lay Binsar. We went there and
saw a sight which can never forget. Stretched out in front of us was a
six hundred miles stretch of the Himalayan snowy range, from the
mountains of Tibet to those of Nepal an in the centre towered Nanda
Devi. There was Badrinath and Kedarnath and many other famous place in
that wide expanse, and just across them lay Kailas and Manasarovar.
What a magnificent sight that was and I gazed at it spell bound, awe –
stricken by the majesty of it. And I grew a little angry with myself
when I thought that I had missed this overwhelming beauty, in a corner
of my own province, all these long years, though I had wondered all
over India and visited many distant countries. How many people in
India had seen it or even heard of it? How many tens of thousands who
visit annually the cheap and tawdry hill - stations in search of jazz
and bridge?”
Uday Shankar, the noted Indian
classical dancer, “I had heard a great deal of Binsar but what I
actually saw surpassed all the imaginary pictures I had built up. The
view from the flag – staff of the towering snow peaks stretching from
left to right is unique and I have seen nothing to equal it.”
Sir Maurice Garnier Hallet,
Governor United Provinces, “On this second trip, to Binsar, we were
extremely fortunate in having a clear view of the snows all day. It
was certainly one of the most magnificent views of the world!”
Located in about 40 acres of
thick oak, cedar and rhododendron forests in the lap of the “Celestial
Kumaon” Himalayas, the Grand Oak Manor combines old world charms with
modern amenities to comfort it’s guests. Experience the majestic
grandeur of the Himalayas, look at verdant valleys dotted with village
houses all around, listen to the birdsong, breath in the fresh pine
scented air. Amidst this natural splendour witness the play of colours
as the day unfolds and the night softly covers the mountains with a
veil of tranquillity.
The night sky slowly comes
alive with brilliant stars and if you are lucky enough, make a wish on
a falling star as traces its vivid trajectory across the horizon.
Take leisurely walks around
the property, in numerous nature paths and watch the wonders in store
for you by Mother Nature and get awe – struck. Revel in the exuberance
of life as layer by layer nature reveals its secrets to you. You will
