This is the name
Rabindranath Tagore endearingly gave to his wife Mrinalini Devi.
Unfortunately Santiniketan today has little that is reminiscent of this
woman in Tagore's life. This property was dedicated on her memory. Our
Chhuti remembers her.
To come to Chhuti is to enter a poem - a poem slowly unfolding in the
spirit of the place and the nuances of its sylvan surroundings.
Chhuti's reception
cottage. A genuine touch of cordiality assures you of the great time
ahead at Chhuti.
Here you sign yourself into the heaven of peace and beauty you always
wanted as yours. As you get here the beautiful key to your room, you'd
look twice at it. Tagore's unmistakable handwriting on it. The name of
your cottage calligraphed: "Sfulingo", "Purobi", "Kheya", "Smaran", "Khanika",
"Sesher Kabita".
Your unforgettable journey begins - an aesthetic sojourn into Tagoriana.
Meandering pathways through a lush green garden take you leisurely to
your cottage. Your unhurried eyes absorb the unearthly beauty of the
Resort. Each cottage celebrates one of Tagore's poem, except the last.
It's named "Sesher Kabita". Chhuti and Santiniketan are one in spirit.
The Resort breathes of the spiritual bondage.
The entire designing and
the structure of Chhuti are the stuff of poetry. Like Tagore's writings,
Chhuti is layered. Thatched and clay tiled cottages spell out in terms
of ancient Birbhum architecture. You feel you have come to a classic
Birbhum Village.
As you step into the air-conditioned comfort of your cottage, its quite
another world. The interior is entirely made of stern, rugged stone -
the primal quality of the stone reminisces the external quality of
Tagore's writings and paintings.
The pathways, the floors, the walls, the bed, even the bathroom walls
are made of primal stone. The magic of stone works everywhere.
Beneath the apparently rugged interior runs an undeniable undercurrent
of romanticism. Just like it is in the Nature and the extreme climate of
Birbhum.
