The Story of Riak Maw : Riak Maw Inn, (pronounced Ree-Ak-Moe)
gets its name from the bird indigenous to Mizoram by the same name,
Riakmaw (in English the Eurasian Cuckoo). This bird gets its Mizo name
from its call which sounded to the Mizos like "riakmaw, riakmaw." "Riak"
in Mizo means to stay overnight. The ancient Mizos believed that the
bird was calling out to the trees asking for a place to stay the night.
But the wandering bird could never find a suitable home in any of the
trees save one, the Thing Thiang tree. Only this tree was deemed good
enough for an overnight stay by the Riakmaw. We named our hotel after
this discerning bird and hope you, like the Riakmaw, will find your
place to stay at the Riak Maw Inn.
