By Air
The nearest airport from Sikkim is Bagdogra at a distance of nearly 124 kilometers from Rumtek. It is situated 12 kilometers from Siliguri in West Bengal. There is regular helicopter service from Bagdogra to Gangtok that takes only 30 minutes.
Helicopter Service:
The Bagdogra airport is connected to Gangtok by a helicopter service which takes approx. 30 minutes to reach Gangtok. Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (+91-3592-222634) operates this service daily at 11:00 AM from Gangtok to Bagdogra and at 2:00 PM from Bagdogra to Gangtok at a price of Rs.1500/- per person. By Rail
The nearest Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri that is 148 kilometers from Rumtek and takes about 4 hours by road. New Jalpaiguri is connected to all major Indian cities through excellent railway network.
By Road
Access by road from Bagdogra (124 kms.), Siliguri (114 kms.), Darjeeling (94 kms.), Pelling (117 kms.), Kalimpong (75 kms.), New Jalpaiguri (148 kms.) and Bagdogra (124 kms.)
There are different road links available to enter Sikkim but most important of them is from NJP (New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal State) on National Highway Number 31A ( NH 31A ). This road enters Sikkim at Rangpo check post (see the Map). Rangpo check post is located at a distance of 77 KM from Siliguri, Kalimpong is 40 KM and Darjeeling is 77 KM. From Darjeeling the road joins the road from NJP by the side of river
Teesta.
