Sambhala Mountain Resort Rumtek Outer View Occupying the side of a ridge, this pretty ivy-covered hotel is surrounded by rhododendrons in a peaceful setting. It has wonderful, good-value accommodations and a genuinely Sikkimese ambience, with smart, clean, bright public areas. Each deluxe room has a small private balcony overlooking a terraced valley slope, distant mountains, and the nearby Rumtek complex. For a good view, reserve room nos. 201 to 204. Alternatively, opt for one of two rather unique cottages -- reached via a small footbridge. The all-wood bedrooms are filled with brightly painted Sikkimese tables, chairs, and cupboards, offset by pale-colored or white fabrics; a small private patio has its own collection of fluttering prayer flags. Meals are taken in the beautiful wood-floor dining hall furnished with dark rattan chairs and decorated with Buddhist paintings, fans, and umbrellas.
