History :
AD 1611
Kishangarh- where every rich of land was conquered by a brave lineage of
kings, who after many a glorious battle and heroic sacrifices,
established their kingdom.
AD
1648 Roopangarh-they made it their seat of power. Strategically located
on the main Mughal route-bordering the desert and the vast plains of
Sambhar Lake-`ROOPANGARH FORT' became the hub of Activity. Within its
nine turreted fortification were made foundries, armories, granaries,
underground passage, jails and palaces. The best of architecture, music,
poetry and painting were patronized and refined at a court where the
delicate touch of its artists transcribed the beauty of living to
exquisite miniature paintings, known today's as The Kishangarh School.
AD 1997 The present Maharaja Brajraj Singh (20th generation of direct
descent since the founder), opens this majestic Fort to receive
travellers who enjoy a sense of history and seek a story from the silent
walls.
Ambience :
Built in Ad 1648 and
called after himself, the town and fort of Roopangarh was constructed by
Maharaja Roop Singh of Kishangarh for defence purpose.
Originally a nine turreted fort, it has been built over and Added on by
several generations. The different styles in architecture can still be
seen in the structure
Today, sensitively
restored by the present Maharaja, the castle retains the sense of
antiquity so delicately portrayed in the KISHANGARH miniatures. Its
rooms still resound with the echoes of a call to arms, the firm bold
step of the warrior, the softer footfall, the whisper of silks. of
romance and intrigue in the zenana.

Activities :
(a) The village walk with
guide inside the bylanes to see the traditional activity of this small
rural community, with its weaver, cobbler, potters and a variety of
tradesman carrying on their work making the people self sufficient in
their daily needs.
(b) Jeep Safaries to the SAMBHAR LAKE -the largest inland salt water
lake and flates in india. Here one can view spectacular bird life
especially the Flamingoes; see the tradtional methods of salt panning,
photograph wild antelopes from close.
(c) Visit the marble
quarries at Makrana from where the pristine white marble of the Taj
Mahal was mined and meet the select artisans whose forefathers carved
the beautiful lattices for the great monument.
(d) Take a camel safari to the exquisite marble carved cenotaph at
nearby Karkeri through the sandy countryside and enjoy the hospitality
of gentle desert people.
(e) Ramble on teh bylanes of the old city of Kishangarh and watch our
painter's work on cloth, paper, wood & marble.
(f) Special gala evenings with traditional folk dances, music & cultural
