Devra is a colonial style house built on
top of a hillock in the lap of the Aravali hills of Udaipur. It
overlooks the city of Udaipur and offers grand panoramic views of the
Udaipur environs, once the scene of many a hunt and battle.
The City Palace and Lake Pichola lie to
the east. The view of Sajjangarh Palace (The Monsoon Palace) set astride
a tall hill towards the north is hauntingly majestic and beautiful. Lush
green valleys stretch out to the south and west of the house. Rivulets
flowing through them feed the lakes of the fabled Lake City of Udaipur.
The location of Devra is
just 2 kms further west of Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur. Devra has the
facilities of staff quarters, where drivers and other staff can stay
comfortably. It can also arrange for airport pick-up and drop, city
sightseeing, horse riding, bird watching, countryside trekking and
evening folk entertainment.
Devra literally translates to 'where
God resides'. In the local language, Devra means a tribal temple. A 400
year-old temple still stands at the site of Devra Udaipur
In 2006, Devra Udaipur was personally
reviewed by the editorial team of 'Alastair Sawday's Special Places to
Stay' - the world's best guide to boutique hotels and unique travelling
experiences
