Ranthambhore National Park -
Ranthambhore National Park is probably the jewel in the crown of
Project Tiger, the initiative establishment by Late Ex-Prime Minister
Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1973 to protect Bengal Tigers and their habitat
throughout the subcontinent.
The Ranthambhore National Park was the hunting ground of Maharaja of
Jaipur. In 1955, it was declared as a game sanctuary, with the
commission of Project Tiger in 1973, it was included in the project
and in 1980. it became a national park. The Ranthambhore Park is set
between the Aravalli and Vindhya range. Its deciduous forest were once
a part of the magnificent jungles of Central India. The terrain is
rugged and there are rocky ridges, hill and open valleys with lakes
and pools. Today, it is famous for its tigers and is one of the best
places in the country to see majestic predators in the wild. The
tigers can be spotted quite often even during the day, at their normal
pursuits – hunting and taking care of their young ones. With the
strict measures that have been taken for their conservation, they seem
quite accustomed to human activity and are not disturbed by it.
