Set in a peaceful rural
locale of Ganahera, amidst orchards of an indigenous Indian fruit called
Amla (Emblica officinalis) and fields of roses, is the exclusive luxury
camp aptly named 'Orchard'. It is located close to the large open
grounds of Pushkar, where Asia's largest camel fair is held annually.
The camp operates from just before the fair to mid-February each year.
How to get Here
Pushkar is literally
located at the heart of Rajasthan. It is thus easy to get to by road,
air and rail. The road from Delhi to Pushkar is fantastic with a smooth
macadamized four lane road running most of the way. From Ajmer it is
advisable to take the road through the city. Though a little longer, as
the road is better, the drive is actually shorter. It takes barely two
and a half hours from Jaipur to reach Pushkar.
Air:
Jaipur, the nearest airport is 138 kms. (86 miles).
Rail:
Ajmer is connected to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Abu Road
and Jodhpur by regular trains. Two of the best trains of the Indian
Railways, Pink City Express and Shatabdi Express connect Ajmer to Delhi
and Jaipur.
Road:
A dense network of bus service operates from Ajmer to key
destinations around. Distances from important tourist centres are:
- Jaipur: 138 kms. (86 miles).
- Delhi: 392 kms. (244 miles).
- Ahmedabad: 526 kms. (327 miles).
- Jaisalmer: 490 kms. (304 miles).
- Bikaner: 233 kms. (145 miles).

Dining
A 'Golghar' or
circular tent set in the middle of the orchard acts as the dining tent.
This tent provides a 360-degree view of the orchard. Light muslin
curtains keep in the light and the breeze while adding a festive touch.
Serving multi-cuisine food, made of fresh garden vegetables mostly grown
on-site, the dining area is a great place for breakfasts and lunches.
Dinners are mostly served al-fresco under the stars and around a
bon-fire. Authentic entertainment performed by an internationally
renowned Rajasthani troupe, complete the evenings.
All meals served
are vegetarian as Pushkar is a holy site and non-vegetarian food and
alcohol is strictly prohibited.
Accommodation
Every year during the
winter months the camp set up in this tranquil Orchard, surrounded by
flowers, home grown vegetable gardens and multitudes of trees. The
grounds are maintained by the local villagers who continue to use age
old farming practices that nurture the environment.
Currently 10 luxury tents offer accommodation to those wishing to come
and witness the amazing cattle fair. Luxuriously designed, these tents
cover an area of about 590 sq. ft. each and have a living area, dressing
area, beautifully appointed bedroom, a large bathroom (which is a
permanent structure) and a private verandah. Sheer silk curtains
separate the bedroom living room and dressing area. The interiors are
kept contemporary, and the feel of Rajasthan is brought in by beautiful
pieces of blue pottery and marble.
The bedroom area is outfitted with a large queen-size bed that can be
converted to a twin. Unique marble lamps provide you with an option of
bright or romantic lighting to suit your mood. Each bathroom is equipped
with 24 hours hot and cold water. Accessories are provided by one of
India's leading brands of herbal products. Though all mod cons like
hair-dryers are available in these bathrooms, bathtubs are not provided
in an effort to conserve water.
The dressing area includes a large closet with our signature bathrobes
and slippers. The dressing table also doubles up as a writing table.
Luggage racks provide ample space for storing. All furniture is made of
old hardwood and bears the legacy of a bygone era when elaborate tents
were used by royalty during hunting expeditions.
