Set amidst
the Aravalli hills, this little garrison fort was once a major
principality of the Royal house of Marwar. Bestowed with the title of
Rao, the nobles looked after this little fiefdom for about two centuries
after its construction in the 18th century.
Known by the
name of Rawla Jojawar the fort is now converted into a heritage hotel.
The two young sons of the present Rao and Rani Sahiba Maharaj Singh ji,
Nagendra and Amitvikram singh respectively, are looking after the hotel
in the Rawla, recently restored into its old world splendor.
Accommodations and Facilities
Thirty five
breathtaking rooms, none being alike, each has its own character and
beauty, with it a décor to match. They were lovingly renovated out of
the existing sprawling Rawla keeping the ancient traditions of Vaastu,
or architectural principles in mind, no new buildings were needed.. All
rooms have air conditioning and are connected to equally pretty
bathrooms with all the modern amenities.
A beautiful
pool is located by the side of Zanana Mahal – once a ladies only
preserve. Ideal for a relaxing swim and taking in the warm Rajasthan
sun. The deck is sometimes a venue for tantalizing dinners.
The cuisine
served to the visitor is designed by Vedihi – daughter in law to Rao
sahib, she and an expert chefs of Rajasthani cuisine. She prefers to
blend the cuisine with western dishes for the benefit of travelers from
different cultures. But the serious connoisseur is encouraged to
experiment with Rajasthani cooking in the family kitchen.
The grand
buildings of the Rawla provide ample options for dining venues, pool
side to the Bar Terrace, Pol Terrace, or the Dining Hall.

Activities
-
Town Walk -
Jojawar beckons the visitor to explore
it; the small town is a hidden gem in the county, exploring it on foot
accompanied by one of the staff guides is a great way to experience
life here as it unfolds before your eyes.
-
Jeep Safari -
It is said that the real India is its
rural areas, the country around Jojawar boasts of very interesting
landscapes, with the picturesque Aravalli Hills in the east, and
broken rocky hills interspersed with farms and scrub forests all
around. The Pre- Cambrian Aravalli Hills are one of the oldest
mountain ranges of the world, and a geologist’s paradise. The camel
herding Rabaris are an ethnic group only to be found around Jojawar.
All this makes our Jeep Safaris the most popular excursion. Our
specially designed late afternoon tours take you to homesteads of
these Rabaris, into farms, through pretty little hamlets where time
seems to have stopped, and we take a break under the shade of a
drooping acacias next to a very beautiful small shrine dedicated to a
folk deity. Some routes had to be excavated so as to see as much in
the given time. Our endeavor is to make your excursions interactive
and not merely a drive in the country. Unlike any other, our jeep
safaris are undertaken in our fleet of classic vintage vehicles –
which makes the whole experience very special. Longer rides to your
taste and ability are recommended for people staying longer.
-
Train Safari -
The train route between the cities of
Jodhpur and Udaipur goes up the scenic Kambli Ghat Pass. One of our
favorite excursions is this daily train service from the station at
the start of the hill section to the highest station in the Aravallis
– the Kambli Ghat station, or the other way round. The engine
laboriously and slowly pulls the train through the most beautiful
forests and hills that you get to see in the state, this one hour ride
is really unique as you even get to interact with the locals who’ll
readily share their seats with you and try their best to make
conversation with you while trying to suppress the surprise and
excitement of sitting next to a foreigner from far away lands! The
drive to and back from the stations in your resplendent vintage Chevy,
taking a break for tea and cucumber sandwiches at a tiny Forest Rest
House. The entire excursion is escorted by one of our staff guides.
-
Horse Rides -
For the rider, our horse rides on the
horses from the Rawla’s stables is a way to get into areas where no
vehicle can go, accompanied by one of the family members you’d not
only be guided but introduced to the land and its people. Half a day
to Full day rides are recommended to the visitor. We specialize in
organizing long distance horse rides of 2 to 7 days.
