The name "Utamber" derived from a village named Utamber, about 55 Kms. north/west of Suncity Jodhpur, towards famous Thar Desert Golden City of Jaisalmer. The village was awarded to Late Lt. Colonel Thakur Dungar Singhji, Military Cross, of Awai (Jaisalmer) as a Jagir In recognition of his valour during world war - II while he was participating in famous BATTLE SALERNO LADING IN ITALY (22nd - 25th 1943) along with SARDAR INFANTRY a unit of Jodhpur state forces by the then ruler of Marwar Late Air Vice Marshal Shri Sir Umaid Singhji Sahib Bahadur, GCSI, GCIE, KCVO, ADC, LLD. (PRESENT EX-RULERS OF JODHPUR GAJ SINGHJI II's GRAND FATHER) And The Builder of World Fame Umaid Bhawan Palace. (Late Lt. Colonel Thakur Dungar Singhji was awarded Military Cross vide gazette of India 200.H 28 September 1944 and supplement to London gazette 36668. 24 August 1944.)
