Six luxury tents sit
comfortably on a small dune in the lap of nature and total wilderness.
The small dune happens to be the highest point of an otherwise pan
flat landscape. The views are spectacular. The daily chores of the
sun, always a breathtaking ritual! The nights for stargazing, where we
promise you will discover a whole new universe. It is a place where
you will hear the silence!
The tents are luxurious, Smart, teak-wood polished furniture, rich
jute floor rugs, and beautiful block print inner lining adorn each
tent. Lovely large windows with pull up flaps and permanent insect
netting ensure that you experience the freshness of the desert air and
the panoramic views keeping the unwanted insects at arm's length! The
attached bathrooms are special with running hot & cold water, flush
toilets and proper wash basins. Beautiful electric lamps by the bed
side and on the writing table provide just the right amount of light.
The two common lounge and dining areas are made from the traditional
thatch and dung plaster much like the "Bishnoi dhanis", Bright fluffy
cushions adorn the traditional seating, and the place is lit with soft
candle light, which makes it most inviting and cozy.
Situated 17 km west of Rohet it is the perfect extension of all our
activities. An ideal distance for a comfortable full day horse ride.
The spectacular ride is coupled with a rich cultural experience.
"The village safari" done by jeep or horse, before arriving at the
camp just before sunset to a sumptuous high tea is a near perfect
experience. It has led to many of our guests calling it their " best
riding experience ever"….and their, "best day in India!"
Rohet Garh is a
classified Heritage Hotel. Over the course of fifteen years it has
been nurtured and developed with great love and care by the family
into one of the finest Heritage hotels in the country. No new building
has been added in the renovation process, but rather, old edifices
have been skillfully redesigned to create a heritage property that has
few parallels. Situated on the banks of a lake and set in the midst of
rural surroundings, it is a haven of peace and tranquility. Sprawling
lawns and manicured gardens, which invite a multitude of birds and
dancing peacocks, herald your entry into this oasis where the bird
song is the only sound you will hear. A superb swimming pool with four
charming pavilions entices you for a refreshing dip. Often dinner is
served by the poolside as folk musicians enliven the evening
atmosphere. An elegant, beautifully appointed lounge, serene
verandahs, and terraces with breathtaking views, make perfect venues
for relaxation. The thirty-four individually decorated rooms add a
touch of class.
Pioneers of activities such as 'The Village Safari', and offering an
array of activities- from an extensive equestrian program to culinary
workshops, Rohet Garh has set the highest standards in quality and
efficiency, offering its guests an experience beyond compare.
Rohet Garh proudly boasts of the finest kitchens in traditional
cuisine. The chefs have been trained by the lady of the house, the
late Thakurani Sahiba, who was the author of Cuisine of Rohet Garh and
Quick and Easy Rajasthani Cuisine, the former published due to popular
demand from our guests. Many have called their meal at Rohet Garh,
their best in India.
The peace and tranquility of the environs have drawn writers from
around the world. Rohet Garh has had the honour of hosting some of the
most respected names in the literary world. Bruce Chatwin and William
Dalrymple practically lived at Rohet Garh for four to five months
working on their respective books, The Song-lines and The City of
Djinns. Patrick French too is a friend of the family's and has spent
time at Rohet Garh, as did Simon Winchester and Jeffery Morehouse
Location
Rohet Garh is easily accessible by air, as it is
situated 40 km from the nearest airport at Jodhpur, a 45-minute drive
through scenic countryside. It lies on the main highway from Jodhpur
to Udaipur and on the way to the famous marble temples at Ranakpur.
Jodhpur can also be easily reached by rail

Rohet Safaris
Today the 'Rohet Safaris' brand has become synonymous with
authenticity and quality. It stands proud as a classic example of
responsible tourism in a remote rural part of western Rajasthan,
ensuring that the rich and vibrant culture of the region and the
age-old values stay intact, by instilling a sense of pride amongst the
people, as well as sharing the profits of tourism with a large chunk
of society by promoting local crafts, organizing medical camps, or
helping schools to build their infrastructure.
As for our guests-the Safari simply
becomes the highlight of their India tour! We are proud of the fact
that we are often able to change our guest's conceptions or
misconceptions of India in just two hours! Thus we become active
ambassadors of the country by showcasing that which is traditionally
old and beautiful - an honest simplicity that touches one's heart, and
an underlying sense of spirituality and peace, which becomes the core
of our philosophy. We bring to our guests the true, unspoilt India,
which lies dormant under the heavy weight of the modern material world
and its influences.
The Village Safari
Rohet Garh's signature program.
" Rohet Safari's" premier product. Pioneered by us seventeen years
ago, this program still remains our main highlight. Showcasing the
best of the land, it is a complete cultural experience, which
encompasses all that this region has to offer. From the warm and
hospitable people, to the various customs and ceremonies and the
abundant wildlife, guests have the rare privilege of being welcomed
into people's homes and interacting with them. They get to experience
and understand a way of life that takes them closer to their roots.
They meet the 'Premier ecologists of the world', the Bishnois, who
have protected nature for more than 500 years and are responsible for
the very survival of species like the Black Buck antelope (India's
most beautiful antelope and a rare and protected species today). They
share a beautiful relationship with this special animal, wherein the
antelope stays close to Bishnoi habitation, never leaving it, and
displays complete trust in the Bishnoi people. Guests also meet the
Raikas (shepherds) with their glorious costumes, and the Paliwals and
Meghwals, the Brahmin farmers and weavers respectively.
This unique tour is made possible solely because of the host family's
special relationship with the local people of the various communities,
which allows rare access into every home visited, where guests are
welcomed as their very own.
Royal Picnics
Royal Picnics are a great extension of our safaris. Be it in jeeps, on
camel or on horse, the Royal Picnic is a grand recreation of a bygone
era, where you are waited upon by liveried attendants; large
mattresses with bolsters and soft cushions spread next to a soothing
water body invite you to kick up your feet, and a choice of cool
beverages await your discretion. The food is delicious, served hot on
tables with crisp linen and a bottle of wine…and then you drift into
sweet slumber watching the pied kingfisher dive for his lunch just
yards away from you…!!
Bird-watching
The winter months attract a vast variety of birds into the region,
where in a good year upto 200 different species can easily be sighted.
The numerous lakes and Jheels around Rohet are a haven for birds. A
bicycle, a bird book, a bottle of water, a pair of binoculars, packed
breakfast, accompanied by an escort is all that a true bird-lover
needs!
Culinary workshops
Guests have called a meal at Rohet Garh their best in India. This
resulted in the late Thakurani Sahiba Jayendra Kumari authoring a
small cookbook on our cuisine. Under her expert guidance, we began our
culinary workshops. Today her legacy is carried forward by her
daughter in-law, Rashmi Singh. Our workshops promote traditional
Indian cuisine and are extremely comprehensive and popular. The guests
are not only given demonstrations but also practical training. And
then they get to sample their own efforts!
Accommodation
Thirty-four beautifully appointed
air-conditioned rooms are the pride of the property. Each room is
unique, boasting of its own special feature, all the while being
welcoming and intimate. The frescoes set the rooms apart from the
ordinary, and the furniture, designed in-house in traditional hues, is
of the highest quality. All rooms have attached modern bathrooms,
which are spotlessly clean and tastefully adorned.
