Sarovar marks the spot where Lord Krishna imparted the Geeta updesh to
Arjuna during the epic Mahabharata. Devotees and tourists congregate
through the year, specially during solar and lunar eclipses, when holy
dips are taken. Dari weaving with original colourful patterns, wood
carving, traditional pottery and folk painting are part of the heritage
of this village. There are other crafts too, such as paper basket making

Local Culture Fairs and Festivals:
Gita Jayanti is a week
long celebration commemorating the manifestation of the scripture. The
festival is held at the end of November; when devotees recite the Gita,
perform artis and offer 'deep daan' at the sarovars. Cuisine:
Rice and fresh water fish is the staple food. Hilsa fish is a delicacy
here. During winters Makki ki roti and Sarson kaa Saag is a delicacy
here
Art & Culture Dari making with

Places to See Jyotisar is primary
of the 360 pilgrimages in Kurukshetra, and epitomises Indian mythology
and its culture. It is here that one of the most important spiritual
scriptures of India, the Bhagawat Gita, was taught by Lord Krishna in
the midst of the Mahabharat war. Here grows the offshoot of the banyan
tree, under which the Lord is believed to have spoken. Close by is a
marble sculpture of Lord Krishna explaining the doctrine to Arjuna. A
sound and light show in the evening may also be seen. From Jyotisar,
tourists can visit many interesting places. The Brahma Sarovar and
Sannihit Sarovar delight with bathing ghats and small temples. The
scriptures say that a dip in their sacred waters, especially on Amavasya
days, is as beneficial as performing the elaborate 'Ashvamedh Yajna'.
The Brahmo Sarovar has the Sarveshwar Mahadev temple at its center and
has been mentioned in 'Kitab ul Hind', the memoirs of Al Beruni. The
Sannihit Sarovar is believed to be the confluence of the seven sacred
Saraswatis, where
Lord
Vishu dwells. Gurudwaras close by are dedicated to Guru Hargobind Singh
and Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Nanak had stayed in Gurudwara Sidhbati
during his visit. Sthanesvara Mahadev Temple at Thanesar is where Lord
Shiva blessed the Pandavas with victory in the Mahabharta war. One and a
half kms from here is the Narkatari temple, where Bhishma Pitama lay on
the bed of arrows. Shri Krishna Museum depicts stories of Lord Krishna
through sculptures, paintings of Patta Chitra, Kangra, Madhubani and
Pichhva and bronze collections of Pallava, Chola and Nayaka era. Sheikh
Chehli Mausoleum built by Sher Shah Suri, is located north of Thanesar.
Other places to see are Birla Gita mandir, Baba Nath's haveli, Tapovan
and HUDA parks, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Panorama Science Center, Ma Bhadra
Kali Temple, Gita mandir, Falgu (Furl), Pehowa, Kalayat.The tourist
