Full Day Sonagiri
Temple With Datia Fort & Orcha
Sightseeing
Tours Ex. Jhansi
Sonagiri Sonagiri is one of the
important pilgrimage sites for the Digambar Jains. Legends believe
that King Nanganag Kumar attained nirvana at this site, along with
his fifteen million followers. Several white Jain temples are
scattered around hill, which are dedicated to the king and his
followers. Sonagiri is one of the most popular sites that witness a
huge tourist traffic every year. Thousands of Jain pilgrims come to
this site to pay reverence to ascetic saints
The history of the
temple complex is pretty obscure if you go by the plaque at the
location. It says that Jain king Nanganang Kumar along with 5 and ½
crore saints attained salvation on Sonagiri hill and soon a complex
of 84 temples came to be constructed there. We can keep the doubtful
history aside. What struck me as remarkable about Sonagiri were its
spotless white temples and absolutely clean environs. The
cleanliness, off course is due to the rigorous restrictions
enforced. The pilgrims and tourists alike are required to climb
close to 300 steps bare-footed with nothing more than a bottle of
water with them
Datia Fort Datia lies on the
track from Gwalior to Jhansi. In fact it is closer to Jhansi, which
is in Uttar Pradesh, than to Gwalior. 26km to the north of Jhansi is
the small palace town founded by the Bundela chief Raj Bir Singh Deo.
Bir Singh supported Prince Salim (later Emperor Jahangir) when he
rebelled against his father, the Mughal Emperor Akbar (see Orchha
for details). The palaces at Datia and Orchha are the best surviving
examples of a style of architecture that arose in the late 16th
and early 17th centuries in the Bundelkhand area under
the reign of the Bundela Rajputs
Orcha Orcha
is a city having its origin during the medieval times of 16th
Centaury built by Bundela rulers and has many old timed palaces and
temples reflecting grand old beauty, which existed in those times.
The City was built by a Rajput leader Rudra Pratap Singh. He chose
Orcha city as the capital, because it was on the Banks of Betwa
river
The succeeding Ruler to
Rudra Pratap Singh Raja Bir Singh contributed to the splendor of the
city by constructing Jehangir Mahal. The palace is constructed in
tiers and at the top there are highly graceful umbrella like
structures. From the top of this Palace a view of all the temples
having long tapering structures and other landmarks of the city.can
be viewed with great mind satisfying scene
