The Chumbi Mountain Retreat

Nestled in the Sikkim Himalayas, facing the breathtaking Khanchendzonga range, a mere 10 kms away as the crow flies, The Chumbi Mountain Retreat is located in Naku-Chumgbung, a little village below Pelling in West Sikkim. The Resort is set up in a natural environment that offers hospitality in tranquility. Featuring every possible contemporary convenience blended with a traditional heritage ambience, so that the guests gets the feel of quintessential Sikkimese culture and tradition as they relax in the serene comfort of a lush, luxurious five Star  setting, for a unique enriching experience. The resort is built on a plot of land which is approx 11700 sq meters flanked by the Sidkyong Tulku Bird Sanctuary, and crowned by the Pemayangtse Monastery estate, Sikkim’s premier monastery.

The design is a marriage between the best in modern facilities and amenities combined with traditional trappings, a blend of Sikkimese architectural design with the Bhutanese module of exclusivity. Sikkimese architecture has a great influence of Monastic design and motifs which appears very abundantly and prominently in our entire retreat. The emphasis has on been on extensive usage of locally available materials esthetically put together by local artisans and craftsmen. The main building houses the Lobby, Restaurants and 12 rooms, majority of the Rooms are in cluster of blocks of 2 to 21/2 floors on different levels juxtaposed by a water body and an amphitheater.

    • BASE CAMP: A 24 hour coffee shop and bar with a thematic rustic mountaineering base camp feel, guests can soak in the spectacular view of the Khanchendzonga  with the warm aroma of freshly ground coffee of the Himalayas from Nepal or over a cup of exotic tea from Sikkim’s own Temi gardens or neighboring  Darjeeling.

    • DYNKHANG: A 16 cover exclusive specialty restaurant offering authentic local cuisine served in the style of the Royal Palace.

    • THE GOLDEN BAMBOO – 52 covers fine dining Restaurant with multi cuisine menu that is a gourmet’s delight catering to every taste.

    • PEACHES AND CREAM: The patisserie shop serving freshly baked bread and confectionary.

    • FIRE PIT: Bonfire and bar-be-que


    • WHITEHALL: With 1100 square feet of event space the Whitehall is the conference hall with a capacity of 100 guests in theater style, with state of art AV systems for corporate business meets.

    • BUSINESS CENTER:  Equipped with modern technology for those who wants to keep in touch with their place of work.

    • MULTI-PURPOSE HALL:  Dedicated Hall for indoor games and recreation.


    The Lido is CMR‘s well equipped private movie theatre. Guests may use this facility should they wish to relax and enjoy a film in exclusive comfort. This is a welcome feature at CMR especially for movie lovers. With a rare collection of movies available to viewers it has a seating capacity of 40 persons. 


    The “Mhenlha” (The Medicinal Bhudda) spa and “Dottho” bath house is another unique feature at the CMR with Buddhist meditation and discourse during the morning hours. DOTTHO the traditional hot stone medicinal bath for healing various ailments by means of ancient method of treatment using natural herbs.  This is an important as well as unique part of the Spa. Besides Dottho, separate change rooms for ladies and gents with Steam & sauna rooms, 2 treatment rooms, Yoga Hut and well equipped gym are also available. The spa also boasts of a 26’ x 16’ indoor hot dip pool on lines of a Japanese ophru with an in built Jacuzzi.

  • Art & Culture Trust of Sikkim

    The Art and Culture Trust of Sikkim is a non-profit organization registered by the Government of Sikkim, was founded in the year 2000. Main objectives of the Trust are promotion & preservation of Sikkimese arts & culture. The Trust was founded by the Owner of The Chumbi Group of Hotels. The Retreat houses the office and rare collections of films, slides and documents from the Royal Palace of the Kingdom of Sikkim. The only existing 35 mm print of the Great Satyajit Ray’s lost film “Sikkim” is also on display here.

    The following are some of the initiatives taken up in the past.

    • The Trust has constructed the Kani Lhakhang

      at Pemayangtse Monastery.        

    • Produced a film on the ancient Lepcha craft of

      weaving cloth from nettle fibre.

    • The Trust has been supporting other NGOs

      working for the preservation of Art and  Culture

      in Sikkim.

    • The Trust took on the arduous task of

      cataloguing of documents that was donated by

      the HRH, the Chogyal of Sikkim from the Royal


    • The Trust is presently engaged in the restoration, preserving and cataloguing of other films in its collection
