With
a history dating back to 1856, Lymond House is the epitome of a bygone
colonial era. Set amongst a vista of flowering trees and sprawling
lawns, here is a perfect getaway. The house comprises two large
Victorian drawing rooms with open log fires, ideal for cosy evenings in.
With its six ensuite
luxury double rooms, replete with antique four-poster beds, dressers and
open fireplaces, one can soak in the atmosphere which has been lovingly
preserved for over one hundred and fifty years.
Sitting in the Victorian drawing room keeping warm by the log fire, one
can easily imagine the then lady of the house, Mrs. Dason, sitting on
the piano stool in her crinoline evening gown, playing the haunting
melodies of those who were far from home.
Evenings under the stars
on the spacious lawns are made magical by a large bonfire and outdoor
barbecue.
Lymond House has easy
access to the Wenlock Downs Golf Course, the Ooty Club, the racecourse,
horse-riding by the lake, or boating, a visit to the tea museum and Doda
Betta Peak. Trekking, picnicking and bird-watching trips in the Nilgiri
Hills can also be organised, and the famous Botanical Gardens with its
Toda Tribal Village, as well as the Rose Gardens are within walking
distance. The Nilgiri Library (1858) and St. Stephen’s Church (1834),
with its exquisite stained glass windows, are also close by. An added
attraction in the area is the old heritage steam railway train -The
Nilgiri Mountain Railway. The scenery from the station at Mettapalayam
up the hills into Ooty is simply breathtaking
