Nilgiri Leisure Holidays is based
in the Nilgiris, a picteuresque district in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu in
India and is committed to the sustainable developed of the region to visitors by
offering existing guest houses that are fully furnished as an alternative to
hotel stays thereby reducing the ecological damage created to this pristine
environment as a result of new constructions. We are committed to providing our
guests with a complete holiday experience and organise treks and walks, bird
watching and plantation tours amongst other activities for our guests.
The Nilgiris is only one of a handful of
destinations worldwide that has been designated as a United Nations Hotspot
due to its wide variety of endemic flora and fauna. The district of Nilgiris
indeed has a very fragile ecosystem and all steps must be taken to protect
this pristine environment. Given below is a list of dos and donts that we
encourage every traveller to follow and join is in our effort to promote
responsible tourism in the Nilgiris
Plastics are non biodegradable. They are
harmful to the environment and are banned in the Nilgiris. However there are
still a few stores that continue to give out plastic bags. Do not accept
these bags and ask for an alternative paper bag. Better still would be to
not purchase from these stores. Let them know that the plastic bag is what
deterred you to stop the purchase.
If you have brought along any plastic bags we
encourage you to take them back with you.
Do not litter the place. Always use the
dustbins.
If you go on a trek please do not pluck any
flowers or plants. Some of these plants maybe close to extinction.
While on a trek avoid smoking and do not throw
cigarette butts in the wild. Extinguish them and bring it back with you.
If you find litter on a trek try to bring as
much back with you as possible and dispose it of responsibly in a dustbin.
Do respect the privacy of your neighbours and
keep the volume of televisions and other electronic items to a minimum and
refrain from loud discussions.
The Nilgiris is a great place to take
photographs but do take the permission of the people you are photographing.
