Mount Lavinia is the
southern point of the City seascape. A Beachside enclave, where
the view at night is like a fairyland of lights. The area is noted
for its wonderful beachside Restaurants and cafes.
‘Mount Lodge’ is a
few minutes walk from the beach and close to transport and shops.
‘Mount Lodge’ was designed by one of Sri Lanka’s leading
Architects who induces an instant transformation in your mood,
through the use of light, air and space.
The three-storey
building offers four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, living
room and garden. You may recognise a touch of the Raj.
Rooms :
The
First Level -
Offers twin beds with attached
bathroom. A private courtyard houses a Mango tree, which reaches
up to the third storey. The Mango tree came first, then the
building. Your room may also be entered through a separate entry
in the courtyard. This room leads into an open-air indoor garden,
the sitting room and the dining room.
The sitting and
dining rooms are tastefully appointed, and create a welcoming and
relaxing atmosphere.
The walls are decorated with
paintings and historic photographs, depicting Sri Lanka’s ancient
culture and also allowing you a glimpse of times past. An outdoor
garden fastidiously maintained by your hosts, provides a glorious
backdrop, day and night.
Sink into your comfortable couch
and allow your hosts to serve you an ice-cold tropical drink
before dinner. The indoor garden reaches up to the sky and becomes
nature’s waterfall when raining.
The
Second Level -
Offers a two-bedroom suite (rooms
can be rented separately), each with its own bathroom and
extravagant outdoor courtyard. A large sitting room allows for
entertaining, or just watching the news on satellite TV. Shafts of
light and air bordered by indoor palms will delight you in the
bedrooms and bathrooms. Ideal for family use, or the businessman
with style.
This second level is ideal for a
family or friends travelling together. The main outdoor courtyard
provides privacy to read a book or just to sun bathe.
Surrounded by a great variety of
potted plants, it is also the place to sit at your outdoor garden
setting and enjoy a pot of tea.
The large sitting room is perfect
for entertaining or just enjoying some music. The bedrooms are
comfortable and tastefully appointed, each having their own
bathroom.
The Third
Level -
The ‘honeymoon suite’
offers a king-size double bed, with a courtyard off the bedroom.
The light shafts extend right through to this level and are
delightful. The huge bathroom is fully tiled and set off with
lovely indoor palms. Walk through to the large sitting room, also
with its own outdoor courtyard. Ideal for relaxing or
entertaining, indoors or out.
The third level we call the
‘honeymoon’ suite, offcourse not confined to the first time
around. The privacy, the light, the breeze, the space, all these
combine to make for a memorable stay.
From the comfortable four-poster
king-size bed, to the large sitting room, you will find this suite
the perfect hide-a-way after a days shopping in Colombo, or a hard
day of lying on the beach.
Let your hosts know what time you
would like ‘bed tea’ then take your breakfast on the terrace.
Facilities :
The
Swimming Pool - fully tiled in pure
white, the overflow type pool with its Granite rock border will
beckon you from the time you wake up, until you retire for the
night. Relax on the poolside sun lounges with a good book and an
ice-cold fresh lime juice. The pool is floodlit, so you can enjoy
a dip at night, under a star lit tropical sky. Magic!
The Temple
- built for the family of the once village Ayurvedic doctor as a
quiet place to conduct their devotions in the Buddhist tradition.
Today the restored Temple may be used for meditation,
contemplation, yoga, or a quiet place to conduct your own
devotions. The building features the Singhalese style trelliswork
at the front and entered through the original antique double
doors.
The
Badminton Court - which can also be used
for volleyball, will give you fun and exercise to burn off some of
those calories we'll be providing you with. Racquets and
shuttlecocks are available for your use. The court is of clay, so
lightweight tennis shoes are recommended.
River
Cruises - on the beautiful Bentota
River, in a dugout catamaran is a must. You will be gently paddled
by a couple of oarsmen. With only the sound of the water swishing
by, travel through some wonderful mangrove waterways and be
delighted by the passing flora and fauna. Have your camera at the
ready! The River is a five-minute walk from "Nisala Arana" and the
catamaran is ideal for four people.
Water
Sports - when you feel like something
more energetic take advantage of the various water sports on
offer. A five-minute drive towards the mouth of the river and you
will be able to go skiing, diving, wind surfing, or jet skiing. At
night, perhaps take in a dinner on a floating barge.
Ancient
Buddhist Temple - some around two
thousand years old, can be found within walking distance from "Nisala
Arana". Visit the five temples in the area, some displaying
wonderful ancient frescoes, OR, take a twenty-minute drive and
visit the Temple referred to locally as the mini Adam's Peak.
Tours
- of interest, near and far, can be
arranged for you. A village tour in an open-top Morris Minor
however, should definitely be on your agenda.
Shopping - tours to Colombo with
overnight stay if required, can be arranged. There are some
wonderful shops that you shouldn't miss. Have dinner in Colombo,
stay the night and head back to Bentota the next morning. Walking
through the nearby town of Aluthgama will give you the feel of
Eastern commerce, but not to be missed is the "Market" on Mondays
where you will see produce you didn't know existed.
The
Big Hotels -if you find yourself
wanting to be surrounded by lots of people and be entertained by
modern music bands, then the Big Hotels are only a ten-minute
drive away.
Restaurants - a wonderful range of
food is available in the area, but the experience you must not
miss is to eat in a small Restaurant by the beach. Transport can
be arranged.
Beach
- the Bentota Beach is only
ten-minutes away, where you may have the entire beach to yourself.
If you need a change from the pool this makes for a pleasant
alternative. Take some sun protector and insect repellant.
Classical Cultural Music -
listening to a Sri Lankan classical music group, in your private
garden, under your private stars, sipping your favourite drink,
will be an experience you'll remember for the rest of your life.
Mask
Dancers and Fire Walkers - have a
long tradition in Sri Lanka. The Mask dancing was performed as a
cure for a variety of ailments. Notwithstanding this you will find
them to be wonderfully humorous. The Fire Walkers will of course
leave you aghast. Once again enjoy this performance privately, in
the comfort of your garden.
Walks
– early in the morning, around the
village roads, will not only be healthy for you, but also give you
an experience which cannot be bought. Watch the village come to
life and even chat with the villagers as you stroll along.
Our
Staff – from the Cook, to the House
Keeper, to the Gardener, the Pool Attendant and Watchman, a great
bunch of guys, who will ensure that your Holiday will be fun and
memorable. Your first taste of being pampered will be when you are
asked "what time you would like your bed tea”. Be prepared to put
on some calories, because you wont be able to resist the
mouth-watering curries (vegetables you wont believe, prawns, crab
and lobster from the ocean) that our Cook will whip up for you on
request.
